Dear Mr. Kilmer, I watch your videos regularly and really love them. I am facing a peculiar problem with my car which is just 1 year old. While accelerating at low rpm, I can hear clunking sounds coming from below the engine bay on the driver side. Also when the car hits bumpy roads and there's rhythmic bumps there's clunking simultaneously. My car service people could not find the problem. I changed the motor mount, but the problem persists. what can it be? I feel like I'm driving a 10 year old car with the irritating clunks.

Yeah, Simple, I think we've all been there. When I finish a repair or maintenance job I'm usually kind of proud of myself. Then I notice that extra part I forgot to install. It's a good day, if I can remember where it went. Otherwise it's back to Google while trying not to get too much grease on the keyboard.

Great video Scott!! It’s a little more difficult up here in NEW England USA Due to RUST!! just did the job yesterday. You have to take off the Bearing mount (3 bolts) pull it right out mount and all THEN take off the retention ring and bottom set srew. THE Bearing Collar is rust welded to the mount. We cut the shaft back 2” from the mount, broke off the bearing grease cap then heated along the inside collet seat with a mini touch (glowing hot) rapped it out with a sledge hammer. Put the mount bracket and retention ring and set srew on the new shaft outside the vehicle then with the 3 mount bolts put it back in **side note** we used grease on Both ends of the splindles 👍

Great video. I did this exact job on my 02 Camry just a few months ago. That clip is annoying as all hell to get back into position. It looks deceptively easy in this video but every time you think it's seated, the opposite side pops out. My hand actually slipped on the pliers after what must have been 30-45 minutes of fighting it and it magically seated correctly just by accident.

Side note for this video...every CV axle I've ever replaced needed a little persuasion when coming out of the transmission. Using a good pry bar, wedge the pry bar between the transmission housing and the CV housing and "pop" them out. On this car in this episode, the inner axle spindle has a C-clip that keeps it from falling out. Also if you live in an area where you get snow SOMETIMES the outer axle CV shaft will "freeze" itself in the steering knuckle. Some penetrant and an impact hammer with a point bit (sitting in the center of the axle shaft) usually does the trick. Happy wrenching everyone! -Bandito Brothers

I have found a brake pad looseness with the caliper (almost nothing, but touch it make a horrible clank noise like the explain in your video), change it solve the problem with the noise, but I'll change the bearings for sure, thanks Scotty for take time to answer me, I have seen your videos for long time.

A trick I used on SOME cars, might not work for all cars with CV joints, is to stick the clip in a position where it's not engaging but makes it easier to just slip in place once the new axle is installed. Also, sometimes need to be careful with the transmission seals on certain cars like the Ford Focus; which turned into a nightmare because we took it to a technician who gave it to the new kid who didn't put the seals in the freezer for a bit to shrink them, and scratched the inside of the seal port during install, causing a leak. Next time we did them ourselves and saved a lot of headache.

Thanks for the great video Scotty! I wish it were as easy as this spline shaft on my 95 Avalon---looks like 5-6 huge super tight bolts way the hell in there that have to be taken out then reinstalled (for each CV shaft)--what a pain....
