How To Fix Bunions and Hammer Toes

Are you a therapist? If you're interested in learning more about this functional approach, check out our in-person TruPro Trainings at trunamics.com/take-action.
Are you someone with bunions or hammer toes looking for help? We are most likely unable to direct you to a therapist in your area at this time (it's a big world out there). Try looking for someone trained in Structural Integration via the Rolf Institute or Tom Myers' Anatomy Trains, and/or find a GIFT fellow via the Gray Institute (grayinstitute.net/locator/) for the functional aspects.
The orthotics mentioned in the video are from Nolaro24.com. They do require a consult to be fit properly.

So what are your exact treatment recommendations? Massage? Foam rolling? Do you have any videos that show exercises or gait training? I notice that one of my feet tends to land laterally with my knee turned out. Yikes!

That is a hard question to answer. It really depends on your foot type. Each foot type will have better performance based on a show that works best with it. The only resource I use for that is on the Nolare 24 website. You would still need a practitioner to assess your foot type. Its not very hard.

Because of the sequencing issues that have developed, I like to have the client actively flexing and extending the knee and hip while working on the sequence in the lower leg. Sometimes it takes bringing the opposite arm forward with the flexion of the femur to demonstrate that it is a center of gravity issue in the upper body. I have an elderly client that has lived all his life with what was classified as a clubbed foot that was a reflex pattern from a rotational injury at T7/8 probably at birth.

Never could understand people especially women wearing shoes that purposely destroy their feet. Tight pointy shoes and heels are horrible for you feet. I only wear Keen and Altra shoes because they heave a very wide toe box and no lift. And I go barefoot as much as possible. People with long toes suffer much more.

Hi Amanda, sorry if there was not a clear explanation for you. The video is actually made for certified therapists than can take the information and use it on their patients. Unfortunately, it is very hard to correct this issue by ourselves. OUr goal was to put it out there for professionals to get some insights into their approaches.

Hi Star, this video is actually pretty advanced and is for therapists and doctors. Once they have this information they can treat the condition better. If there were things that we could do for ourselves we of course would put it on there. This is a pretty complex situation that we cant stretch or exercise out of the body. Sorry if there was any confusion.

Sorry Heather, the video was made for therapists that already have the skill to take this information and work with it. This is a very complex subject and we offer a two day class showing exactly what we do to resolve these issues. Unfortunately we can't post a sixteen hour video on KZread.
