I'm never really extremely nervous when I get up to speak but my body involuntarily shakes. My legs get all shakey, and my voice trembles and it is so hard to sound clear and confident with what I'm saying when my voice makes it sound as if I'm about to burst into tears. In trying to learn how to fix this especially going into college.

I hate that my voice makes me sound so unconfident about topics I'm actually really knowledgable about - so frustrating! I have found sometimes acknowledging it helps (if you can in the context of course) like I'll say I'm just going to apologise for my voice to start off...I'm dealing with some allergies but nothing contagious to worry about! Then at least you feel like you've kind of covered yourself if you need to stop to take a sip of water etc. I think the thing that trips me up is feeling like I'm running out of breath..which is weird becuase this oviously doesn't happen when Im just chatting with someone even if I'm talking for ages?!

For all who r suffering from anxiety, I know few tips which I have been doing for myself becos I too have shaky voice and anxiety issues...there r some foods which can really help, for example take in foods with high magnesium, it relieves anxiety...I normally take fennel seeds which is high in magnesium...I have this in my kitchen, so whenever possible I take it, it has helped me a lot..we can take a small teaspoon of fennel seeds directly, chew well and swallow, then drink some water. Take almonds everyday around 6 to 7 and I'm doing one more thing, I keep antacid syrup ready whenever I had to talk before group, I take few mls, it really soothes the throat n you can read well in the classroom or talk before anybody...pls don't overdo with antacid syrups, take only wen its necessary I hope it helps someone becos I know the pain of going through that situation..

Hi jmercado930, thanks for sharing your experience. When we get nervous in social settings or during a performance we have different ways of exhibiting stage fright. Some people shake, some people turn red, sweat, etc. Fear not, because you are not alone! I suggest you check out these two relevant playlists, with a lot of strategies for optimal performing and decreasing stage fright/social anxiety: 🎤Improve Public Speaking/Presentations/Performance: kzread.info/head/PLSgyHuMB_1ohmmNl4sNHe_7K0FnTi1VdH 🌟 Build Confidence Conquer Self Doubt: kzread.info/head/PLSgyHuMB_1oiKmkhefo1iV4r0j-zPKD1w Best of luck! Well I head to the park on every weekend or a nice public place and start reading a aloud while ppl are passing by. I also bought a book that's named "365 ways to reduce stress" along with that I managed to quit smoking for good thanks to "Allen Carr" I'm now preparing for an interview, how would you advice me Ms. Mary?

For some people to whom this comes naturally to, simply smiling and breathing might work but for many other people, specific techniques and warm up strategies are required to help calm stage shakes and social anxiety such as stage fright. Keep in mind that public speaking is many people's number one fear. Consider what it would take for you to overcome your number one fear, what you are most afraid of in other words.
