How to Fix a Rib Out of Place

Dr. Rowe shows how to quickly fix a rib that feels like it's popped, slipped, or just out of place.
To make it easy, we'll break the video up into three separate parts. Each part will focus on a different way to get rib pain relief.
To get the best results, go through all three parts and exercises, and use what gives you the most chest, back, and rib pain relief.
As a bonus, all of the exercises can be done at home, and may give fast rib pain relief... even in as little as 30 SECONDS!
Watch now and fix a rib that feels out of place!

I went to the ER from pain caused by this before, it can scary. I just found this in desperation and honestly I could barely do the first round of stretches from pain. But by the time I did them the 3rd time I could take modest breaths without too much pain. Thank you for this, seriously!

As a professional horse trainer Ive had so many broken bones and injuries. Chronic nerve pain that made me give up my career in my lower back and butt. $50,000 in medical bills to a surgery center that never figured out I had a twisted and rotated pelvis and wanted to fuse my SI joints. Can you imagine how bad that would have messed me up? Fusing me together in that position? I don’t trust Doctors anymore because of it. I’ve spent a year stretching intensely. It’s changed my life and reduced my pain drastically. But my pelvis is still a little twisted and rotated, which keeps a rib pulled out of place and hurts in the middle of my back like no other. I’ve had issue with that vertebra turning upside down and now I can’t get it to stay in place, but this stretch helps more than anything else. So thank you for sharing. Hopefully I’ll get the sucker to pop back into place eventually!

My husband thinks I’m crazy when I tell him my third or fourth rib slips out. I have EDS and I recently lost 130 lbs and am off opioids. So I’m working on learning what the root cause of my pain is. A lot of my shooting but squeezing pain is that rib being out. Once I pop it back in it’s like I can finally breathe!!!

I have hEhlers-Danlos Syndrome. I'm so happy that you've taken control of your life! Good job! So much information is now available on Ehlers-Danlos syndrome mostly due to the efforts of Dr. Diana Driscoll. But with an "invisible illness" it is challenging for people to understand something is actually wrong and you're actually in pain or fatigued or frustratingly depressed because you want to accomplish so much but just physically can't. Keep it up. It is worth it!

Thank you for this video, it's really helped me. My lower ribs were out 2 weeks ago, from lifting a heavy tent pack. I couldn't cough, sneeze, blow my nose or lay on them, as they were SO painful! I was needing osteopathy or chiropractic. I couldn't get to my osteopath and then found this video here. I used the exercises and also did some daily self massage to my intercostal and spinal muscles and I'm fully recovered! I'm so grateful 😊 I'm carrying on the exercises because I'm hoping they'll help prevent the same injury happening again.

I have to get a tennis ball but I found that a racquet ball works best and place it near the popped rib as closely as possible while laying flat on a hard floor or even standing up against a wall. I put a little bit of pressure on the ball and just roll it around to loosen up the muscles. Then once they are loosened up, I then put as much pressure as I possibly can on the ball and roll it around. I don't ever know which way the rib needs to go to get back in place, so I just wiggle around and roll the ball in all directions until I feel a sense of relief. That's how I know the rib is back where it's supposed to be. But, for the more severe the slip is, the harder it is to put it back in myself. I've gotten to the point several times where I absolutely can not walk and I have to go to either the emergency room or if I'm lucky I can get into a chiropractor within a couple hours.

Omg you have no idea how bad I needed this. I have MS and I pulled a rib. I couldn't move and the pain exacerbated my MS symptoms. I happened upon this and WOW!! I felt relief the first day. It's gotten easier everyday and I expect it to be gone within the next few weeks. God Bless!!

Thanks. I will experiment with all of them to see what works best. Right now seeing a DO for thoracic block--lots of work to open up the rib cage and stretch the abdominal muscles which got somehow very short. To then have a rib problem (i think this was the one fractured from a leg kick in karate class many years ago.) It doesn't usually bother me but all that work on the whole thoracic/rib is changing things. He told me to "listen to my body." In the middle of the night when there is one more reason I cannot sleep, listening to my body is "hearing" the roaring contractions on the bottom of my feet which cause trigger points which ....etc. Listen to my body? My body sounds like it is crying. Thanks again.

I have watched your videos so many times and use your suggestions for pain relief... but I lost the use of my left hand; it is fused at the wrist now. So, being on my hands is very painful and lopsided; I have to use my knuckles to balance on the left side. Since this video is over a year old you may not see my question, but just in case... Do you have any suggestions for using machines, or other ways, to strengthen the upper body/rib area if one hand is weak? Thank, thank you, so much for all your help. I can't begin to tell you how many times your information has helped relieve some or all of my pain. ❤ from West Virginia

I just injured my ribs while bending over sideways to pick up my dog. Loud pop and a lot of pain. It's been very sore in a few spots and there are certain movements that just kill me. I'm hoping these stretches and movements help relieve the pain. Thanks for the video!

Thank you for the video and I want to ask you what exercises would be good to block the chest muscles after an injury from lifting dumbbells I had some x-rays done at the time but I hadn't broken any ribs so they told me it was muscular and it was going to disappear over time but I've been like this for almost 2 years and also the pain in the sides radiates to my feet when the muscle feels trapped

@SpineCareDecompression: I enjoyed watching your video; it was simple and easy to follow. It seems like there’s a lot here for problems with the ribs that are especially at the back, or the true ribs. I came on here looking to pop some ribs back in place. The thing is there are lots of videos out there, to deal with the true ribs. But my problem is one of the floating ribs, maybe two of them. I sat down to eat lunch two days ago, and when I stood back up, I heard a fleshy pop sound, and felt a lot of pain on one side at the front, at the level of the floating ribs. It’s painful, and it’s slowing me down in life, so I’m really hoping to find a video that deals with getting those guys Back when they need to be. Can you recommend a video that does that, please? I had a quick look through your channel and didn’t see anything specific to that, although certainly that doesn’t mean it’s not there. It just means I didn’t see it.

Thanks!!! My SI joint is painful, my chiro is working on it, some progress. I’m 70, told w age it can become an issue. I’ve had many hard falls from horses; low back some damaged nerves. I have some tenderness I have some tenderness in the Back rib area on my R side, SI pain is center/R. I had figured that the SI was linked to my rib tenderness. I need this! 👍

This is a very good video, and you are very knowledgeable. However, I tried every one of these things this morning, and I am still in agony. I have an old flail chest situation from a motorcycle crash (6 broken ribs and a punctured lung) and as I age, I am finding that ribs pop out about once a month now, and I am virtually incapacitated until it finds its way back in. ...Usually when I'm sleeping.

Thanks so much for this video, i have so much issues with my ribs. If this doesn't help put my ribs back into place what else can I do? Most of the doctors and PTs i've seen don't even believe that ribs can slip and get out of place... (I live in France) so I don't konw what to do. Getting a scintigraphy next Friday to check my whole body and see what's wrong but I don t know if that exam will show whether some of my ribs are out of place or not. Sorry for the long comment 😅

Hello Michael and thank you for one more helpful video. I would like to ask you something related to this topic. I have kyphosis (schuermann's type but not severe). Last months I decided to do something about my situations. I started swimming, hydrotherapy and exersices in pool, massages, acupuncture etc and all these help. I also use foam roller and stretches for thoracic and upper back mobility and I can say I have seen improvement. However I have a rib in the upper front left area (2nd or 3rd) that protrudes more than the others since 4-5 years and it gives me pain in the sternum area and to the left almost always. Especialy if I touch the area or when I sneeze! The stretches that I've started since some months have helped a lot, but I'm wondering if I should keep doing them or if I need a kind of manipulation to put it back (I have seen it protruding since many years but only the last 4-5 years it gives me pain). I am also afraid to do any brutal manipulation there because the area is healing from some strains that I had from overstretching trying to find relief. Any advise? Will these exersices that you show help my situation if I do them regularly? Should I also continue swimming and massage? Thank you for your time and keep up the nice work you do. Greetings from Greece.
