"clean it with the wife's toothbrush" LOL. GREAT VIDEO. THANKS. See around 15:00. I just found out that you should take OFF the bottom O-ring FIRST and replace it SECOND. It's easier to roll the bottom ring OVER the upper in both cases. Who'd a' thunk! Also, it's necessary to grease the rings ONLY after replacing them. Only the outside of the ring rubs against the swivel part. THANKS!

Nice video. Two suggestions from another video that might help: Remove the bottom O-ring first. The top O-ring will keep the bottom one from getting caught on the threads. When replacing, do the top one first, so the bottom one will go over it instead of going over the threads. Second, the other video showed the grease being applied after the new O-rings are installed. Then you don't have a greasy O-ring to install. Just helpful info from the video I watched right before yours! Your video is good, too.

I tried to disassemble mine yesterday and thought I had broken the crown ring but later saw that it was split on purpose. Thanks for your thorough video instructions! Very well done. IMO, removing the faucet "spout" is stubborn due to the loss of the lubricant on the O-rings. Once the two new O-rings are lubricated and in place, the faucet "spout" slides down and into place more easily. Once again, a terrific job!

Excellent tutorial. This tap was like mine so I could understand steps easier. My tap is in a new house just a year old. I followed all the steps you did, but mine did not have any O rings. Just a thin flat non elastic circular piece at the base. Of course the builder didn't leave any model number. And they are difficult so to deal with that I don't want to approach them. It seems that if a guy isn't with you you get bad treatment. I will send pictures to Moen for clarification of O rings for my tap and hopefully they will send pieces. Many Thanks!!!

Mine have low water flow after i repaired a leak and had water turned off for days . NOPE took it apart disconnected water lines and blew air thru them then reconnected them and still low water flow .. They didn't look clogged up but still blew air thru them and still low prsessure . Might be where the problem ? Turn off valves ? UPDATE - it was clogged somewhere in between the spout and the supply lines. I blew compressed air from spout to the lines. That finally cleared it.

I noticed the small retainer ring (?) that sits on top of the top O-ring was broke and I need that replaced as well.

BTW it's always best grease both O-rings/washers and whatever they fit into. :) I regularly use silicone based plumber's grease which initially feels sticky. Additionally I apply the grease AFTER the O-rings are in place so I'm not wiping the grease off to install them.

BTW a little trick I used here as usual is to put a dot of White Out (yah, for documentation) on the nut before loosening. Then when I put is back on I am assured I tightened it back to approximately what it was originally.

Thanks ‘so much’ for the video, it was the “extra tool” I needed to complete the job...!!!

Great to hear!
Clean it with the wife's toothbrush😂 Great video, exactly what I needed to fix my sink and I'll call Moen next time for the parts! Thanks!!
Great video, extremely helpful and realistic for how must are going to go about it using the tools at hand
Such a good, helpful video...and just my speed! My faucet is fixed! Yay!!
Thx for the great video. Worked great for me but I will emphasize that it took quite an effort to pull that spout off!
My girlfriend text me pics of her leaking faucet so I’m loading my guns before I go over there because in the bonehead world failure is not only an option but a high probability! From past experiences covering the drains on the sink will be the first task performed 😉Great video and thanks
nice job.. now it's to clean that sink, emery pad to clean, mineral oil to bring color back. I gotta do mine every couple weeks.
EXCELLENT !!!!!!! Perfectly made... A fantastic walk-thru ! TY

Thanks for the link. I know that O ring issue is mine , too. I will call moen and have parts shipped.. in the meantime I am using paper towels at the base of the faucet dangling down into the sink . It's a siphon effect to keep water from going behind the spashboars,,, and eventually into the basement ... where I first discovered the problem !!
Good job, sir! Thank you very much for making my job easier.

Happy to help
Thanks so much for this video. I'm watching it more than once to convince myself and my daughter that we, 2 ladies, can fix the leak in the kitchen sink.

I'm in the same boat
My spout leaks from the seam at the bottom. Just got a new spout and a 1255 kit, with an o-ring kit. I'll do the job tomorrow. Many thanks for this video. The instructions I got were not that helpful, but your video sure is.
We have a different style of Moen faucet that actually leaks around the base and under sink , especially when dishwasher running… trying to get my brain around it. Using paper plates more per your recommendation 👍
very well done mine has set screw in back cant see it glad it went to front thank you.
For my Wetherly faucet I replaced the O-rings with Danco #97 o-rings which is 1-5/8” O.D., 1/8” thick
Very professional. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. 👍🏻 i like your video
Very helpful how to video. Thank you.
thx for this part at 23:30, the split part fucked me up and my chrome piece is just floating there lmao. now i know twhy!!!
Thanks Didnt know type of faucet I had. Typed in number and Moen came up. I ll call Moen for 2 o rings. Can t be more than $2.00. Mine leaks exactly as yours did.Couldn t pry off bottom base as it takes a pretty nice twist too I see. Maybe the lock washer too wasn t removed when I tried a couple weeks ago. Thanks again.
Nice detailed video. Really helps a novice like me.

Thanks for this informative video. Could you please post a link to the color PDF directions. That would be appreciated.
Both Big O-rings They become encrusted and built up with scale and lose their ‘round’, causing water to escape. Get a water softener installed in your home. In my city, Toronto, the water is 7 Grains of Hardness, and that’s out of 10.
Thank You!!
Good leaning bcz of nice explanation, thanks
Great video, helped me a ton.......... thank you.
Great video! Thanks
Does any body know the exact model # of the faucet in the video? Moen has the same style faucet with several model #s. I have the exact same faucet, with the same problem, but Moen send me parts for another faucet that looks the same but is not.
Hood help thank you
Thx for the thorough video.
Thank you for making this video! It really helped me!!!!
This was good. Do you know the model # of your faucet? Mine looks exactly the same. I did not yet get the replacement O-rings but removed and lubed them. Cleaned the inside of the faucet base as well as I could with Bar Keepers Friend to remove any crud build up, which mine had.

Awesome! Can't believe Moen will send you replacement parts & directions! Just what i need! What an amazing warranty!
THANKS !
My moen sink is leaking at th moment but it's the washer/O ring at the base is broken, should I replace the cartridge ? It's the single handle faucet, and you can see where the washer is broken at the base

You wouldn't need to, but if you get the parts from Moen it won't cost you a dime.
Same faucet. Same problem. Different cartridge in mine. I’m guessing mine was manufactured circa 2008.

Lots of useful information although the first thing one should do is to cover the drain so if you drop something.... This was mentioned but not until the end of the video.

Was it 2mm allen? It does fit but not turning
@stuntcardriver
3 жыл бұрын
The set screw is probably corroded. Try working it back and forth slightly to break it free. Also you could try tapping on the end of the allen key with a small hammer to loosen it.
Great but at the start you didn't show which type of screwdriver you just used ... you show the hole but not the tool
Awesome
wife's toothbrush 😂
How do you know if it's a cart or O-ring problem?
@stuntcardriver
4 жыл бұрын
If the o-rings are leaking water will run out from in between the handle. If the cartridge is bad it will drip from the end of the spout.

I could not get the faucet part off. Mine would come up a bit but would not release.

It takes some pretty good force to pull the faucet off. Twist and pull.
Thanks, we will not tell your wife about her toothbrush. LOL

Too, Funny...!!!
i'm not sure but it seems like you can replace the o-rings without removing the cartridge nut. remove the spout after removing the split washer and you can replace the o-rings without turning off the water. can anyone confirm that it's possible to replace the o-rings without turning off the water? great vid btw

I think there's no need to remove the cartridge. I will confirm as soon as I received the O-ring.

Update: I have a Moen 87999SRS kitchen faucet and I successfully replaced the O-Ring (146789) without removing the Cartridge and/or turning off the water. But of course, the choice is yours!

Ricochet may have said it best... my attention span dun turned off :) second time around though, I did enjoy the problem solving process. Nice that they sent new parts, still cheaper to have the wife washing dishes vs buying paper plates, right? P.s. any edible lube off your nightstand should work fine for those rings.
I called plumber in a few days ago. He checked my kitchen sink faucet. It was leaking and made noise for let drop water during the freeze weather. He wanted to replace the new faucet from the old one and said it cost $750. 😐😐😐 He and $750 are full of BS. Okay, I try it.

Extremely distracting finger pointing. It's like this guy is getting paid by the word, not the results.
