Change title to How to fix OLD Moen kitchen faucets and you may get more hits. Been searching for days for a video with this type of tap, this is the only one I found. The tool you have is more for Plumbers I think, you should market it commercially. Either way, I probably wouldn't have tried fixing this without your video and the way they installed it in my condo in 1995 makes it near impossible to change to a new one.

Thank you for the tips! This was the exact information on the exact faucet I was looking for. It helped me take it apart and put it all back together again. Here's what I would like to share. Taking the cartridge out was the worst cartridge I ever had to take out. I was at a point of being on top of the sink, squatted and pulling upwards with a vise grip. Nothing! I didn't have time to look for your tool nor the time to order it so I went out to the hardware to find a quick puller which helped me but still it was hard getting the last Ince out. I strong armed the rest. This cartridge was in this casing for who knows how long? Years! It was a struggle but I finally got it out. What I found was the two black plastic pieces at the bottom of the old cartridge came off and that's probably what jammed it all up. The nut was black, not shinning like in your video and so I knew the mineral build-up was old. This time I soaked the loose parts in vinegar for a few hours. Cleaned it all up nicely. In the shaft of the casing I did have to take a tool and a rag to clean it out as I could feel mineral all over the walls. The new cartridge pretty much slipped right in and it was smooth from there on. Thanks again!

That is my exact model faucet as well! I know from the plastic cap over the cartridge that the Model Name is "Chateau". I cannot, however find the Model Number, even on Moen's web-site. By any chance, do you remember the Model Number of that faucet? I strongly feel that the model has been "discontinued"! After all, it was purchased over 50 years ago. NOT critical, they are sending the cartridge, anyway!

Hi Brandon, I just moved and have this style of faucet at my new place. The handle can spin 180 degrees and doesn't stop at a max hot and cold position. Is this normal for this style of faucet?

  • @brandonseamons9642

No, there is a small plastic piece that is broken or worn out on yours. Just take a picture of your faucet and go to your local plumbing supply house and they can sell you an inexpensive rebuild kit for it.

Great video Brandon. I happen to have that exact Moen faucet and also need the 1225 cartridge. Just wondering if you happen to have the faucet model. It doesn't appear anywhere on the faucet itself that I can see. I'm also having a lot of difficulty turning the retainer collar counterclockwise with channel locks to remove it so I can change the cartridge. Any ideas on how I can get if off without breaking the faucet stem?

That's probably the O-rings. I've heard that Moen also gives O-ring kits for free to the first owner, but either way, you can probably find it at Home Depot or a plumbing supply store. On most of these simple single handle fixtures, the spout can be pulled up once the ring that holds the cartridge is removed.

Great question. Yes, you can remove the cartridge without this tool - but it can be very difficult. That is why this tool is so valuable - you can remove several types of Moen cartridges in a variety of situations. I just looked on Moen's website and yes it covers products in Canada. There are a few limitations to their warranty however. The number to call is 1.800.465.6130 Hope this helps.

On the newer stuff, c 2017 or so, just don't buy it. They are crap, little plastic cartridgette, poor instructions, missing tools in tool kit (T30), won't disassemble without a puller (also not included), and many reviews say it leaked in months, not years. Avoid this crap brand at all costs. They wasted so much of my time/money.
