Excellent video. Thanks for not talking / playing music / doing a ten minute rambling intro / talking about sponsors etc. I’ve serviced my bottom bracket based on your video and the difference is amazing. I know a new unit wouldn’t break the bank, but there is something satisfying about keeping things going.
Very nice to see you repair things instead of just throwing away. 40 years ago when I worked in a bike shop, we had a solvent tank to clean parts. The tank makes it easy to get all the grit out of the parts.
This is the way real mechanics do things !
My noisy year old BB is now clean and well lubed. Thank you for this tutorial

I just completed installing one of these bearings on a very old Giant brand Canyon bicycle. I just bought a new bearing. It was pretty inexpensive and was very simple to install since I had the proper tools. I just saved myself some money.

No grease on cranks, you bended the aluminum and the crank going loose after some kilometer. The bearing was the same destroy like before 😂

Note, this is only 1 out of dozens of types of bottom brackets. Make sure you know what type of bottom bracket you have and how to properly remove it or you could end up damaging both the bottom bracket and your frame.

What about a clunking bike? The clunking is happening in the bottom bracket, as I'm pedaling, and on the non-drive side. It happens on the downward stroke, but only on the non-drive side. For now. What's going on?

Those bearings sounded rough at the end and don't think you are supposed to grease the square taper BB crank interface, it's supposed to be a dry fit.

Those bearings were finished, they should have been replaced. They are very cheap. Far too much torque from that bar. Also you shouldn’t knock the bearing into the cup like that. I could go on.

@@NiceBikeService although I believe King Aldo is correct, and in your situation I probably would have just got a new BB and kept the old one until I could get new bearing cartridges to restore it, sometimes the jury rig is all that's on the menu, 🤷🏾 and there's nothing wrong with that. If the bearing cartridges get ruined you can just put new ones in, you're probably not going to crash because your BB bearings/races are flat spotting/pitted lol. At least this way they'll be quiet 😹 Props to you for putting service footage on YT. That's right up there with putting your welding out there: follow best practices or you better have a thick skin and humility in equal measures.

It's very strange, but my bike has threads in rusted poor condition. The bike is a rare classic. Early in its life, the one side of the shell was thread Italian which has the same pitch but deeper threads. That side gave me problems before rethread. The other side is the original English thread. This is possible if you thread Italian from the tap with correct thread direction. Phil Wood retaining ring with Italian thread one side, and English on the other. Classic road bike with modern looking crankset, Noooo! It's a 45 year old Dave Moulton with hand written receipt by the man himself! It has some modern upgrades, but leave my "Movemento Centrale" alone!

There’s no way to revive bottom bracket bearings. Replacing only bearings is also senseless, because they are unique dimensions and expensive. Buying new bottom bracket is the only economically justified way (10$ for cheap one).
