How to fit a kitchen

Watched all those property shows like Homes Under The Hammer, Location Location Location or even building a Grand Design? Have you longed of doing it yourself...but months (or years) later find you still haven't done it?
Why is that?
Everyone has a dream property, don't they - so what's yours?
Castle, Chateau, Houseboat?
What about a lopsided 2 bed terrace? No? Well, that's our choice.
But at the moment it is a bit of a disaster - no kitchen, heating to only half the house, dodgy electrics and woodchip wallpaper everywhere. Can we turn it around?
We hope we can but we also hope it might inspire you to have a go and maybe EscapeToTheDreamHouse!

Im not sure if the comment i just made posted or not 😂. If they are solid wood worktops then they join together with a butt joint and not a mason's mitre to allow movement. You can also get talon pipe collar's for waste pipe from Screwfix etc and these hide the larger diameter hole in the cabinet which is normal to have unless you drill the hole at the exact angle.

I like the idea of the talon pipe collar. Cheers And of course it isn’t solid wood…😂😂 But good knowledge on the jointing if ever I can afford a solid wood one! 🍻

@@EscapeToTheDreamHouseUK Yes they go from 10mm to 110mm the pipe collars so can be used for anything from radiators to soil pipe but screwfix only seem to do 10mm, 15mm and 110mm and nothing else but you can get them ebay and they can be fitted after the pipe is installed anyway. I'm not sure laminate is a bad choice to be honest as wood worktops take a fair amount of looking after with oiling and also stain if your not careful with them

Kitchens in older houses are never at 90 degrees. You get used to it. Those are the highest sockets I've ever seen in a kitchen. Is that to avoid cutting tiles? Gonna be interesting to see how close they get to the wall units.

That's the power of experience. I'd have them just above the splashback assuming he's going that route. That's why you need to plan out in advance and effectively prebuy the gear, like an aluminium splashback is X mm high etc.

@@John-ou4rm He’s made plenty of planning errors but he’s definitely enjoying himself. The optimal height for sockets is 150mm above the work surface

Certainly not this house! The sockets are 150mm so should be spot on! Time will tell 😂🍻

I am guessing that the worktops are not solid wood worktops, I'm not being funny by saying that just that you don't masons mitre solid wood worktops just but joint. You can get talon pipe collar's from places like Screwfix that go around the waste pipe to cover the hole made in the cabinet (if that made sense 😂). Also if the cutting laminate chipboard worktops or any laminate making a shallow cut and running the circular saw backwards helps to stop the laminate chipping as the blade is cutting down into the worktop and not up threw it
