    I found, when cutting the hole, cut horizontally first, incase you hit an obstacle. Otherwise you would of cut vertically, not knowing that you'd have to move further along the wall. Your videos are great, good to see some British guides on here.

    If you have yet to plaster the stud wall would you recommend the back box being put in place before or after skim plastering? Does the plaster help glue the back box in place or can you expect the plaster to break in which case fitting the back box after the skim would be best? What u reckon?

  • @ultimatehandyman

    @ultimatehandyman

    Steve Hindmarsh Best to install it first, just in case you damage the finishing plaster when fitting it. The plasterer can then plaster around it.

    Great video thanks. Just a quick question I have discovered my drywall is double 12mm plasterboard in some places so around 27mm thick including the skim. The side flaps cant get behind the plasterboard is there something else I could do or use?? Many thanks.

    You might be able to just cut a slot in between the two sheets of plasterboard, to create a gap for the lugs?

    So my box has been pulled out of the wall on one side, can I repair the original hole or do I have to move the socket? It's not all the way out but the lug no longer grips the plaster board.

    If you have never done any electrical work before it's probably best if you get an electrician to move it. This video should help- kzread.info/dash/bejne/gaqAq7SwdpDWd5c.html

    We're can I buy this item as the one I bought in B&Q was cheap rubbish because the togs wouldn't tighten into the plaster board

    Just wondering why you wouldn't recommend these for sockets? Is it because of the force some plugs require when pulling them out of some sockets? What would you use instead?

  • @ultimatehandyman

    @ultimatehandyman

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes, I once had one work loose, but an electrician convinced me that it was a one off, and that he has used them for years with no issues 👍

    Unfortunately I have no choice. The “walls” are a honeycomb of 12mm plasterboard, 35mm waffle and another 12mm plasterboard, so nothing to screw into!

  • @mastergx1
    @mastergx114 жыл бұрын

    Great Vid but just one question... I can see why you wouldn't recommend installing outlets in them but what other choice do you have if you want to install a socket in a stud partitian wall? The only option I can see is screwing a surface backbox onto the stud itself - of course it would stick out about 35mils!

    Couldn't catch what you said on your last line? It sounded like not to use a dry lining back box for a socket switch? If so why not?

  • @ultimatehandyman

    +jazzyman99 Ignore that line. I thought I put a note on the video saying to ignore it. Someone said that they work loose if used for sockets, but apparently they were incorrect and these back boxes are fine for switches or sockets. Thanks for the comment

    I need to replace the front plate on mine. The right hand screw just keeps turning and is stuck in the lug. Any idea how I can get it out without breaking it please? Also, my lugs are red. Does that mean there's a difference for some reason?

  • @ultimatehandyman

    @ultimatehandyman

    It sounds like the screw, or tab insert is stripped. You can often remove them by turning the screw anti-clockwise - whilst pulling on the screw (you might need a flat bladed screwdriver to get behind the screw head and lever, whilst turing the screw) If the screw is stripped, you can get a new one, if the lug in the backbox is stripped, you can normally replace the lug. A red one, is just a different manufacturer.

    Yes, sure. Just remove the screws and the lugs will push back. Once they are pushed back fully you can pull the lugs into the backbox, then remove the backbox 👍
