    One point just as an observation, I usually use a stanley knife to score through the plaster only not the board around the box to try and stop the plaster chipping back, then us my saw to cut out.

    Another tip is to use a metal box to mark the outline of the box on the plasterboard. This means you can put a spirit level comfortably on top of the box and get it perfectly level. Even better, when doing this place the metal box in reverse against the wall and its even more stable.

    Nice Video! One great tool to cut a nice hole into plasterboard faster is the "Fein Multimaster" or the the Bosch equivalent Multitool. Also to find struts without damaging the wall one could use a Wall-Scanner.

    If you score the wall with the stanley first you wont get that scruffy finish around the box. Or put less pressure forward while pulling the blade towards you.

    Brilliant video mate. I would love someone on here show what to do when plasterboard at the side bursts or you have to move to the socket to the side. Because this would leave no board for the yellow clip to hold on to. How would a pro fix that? I ask because I've had to do this in my home a couple of times. I've just built.up no more nails and added a new square of plaster in. But I'm not sure that's right

    Whatever works. Piece of thin rigid material (like another piece of plasterboard if you have any) on the backing overlapping a few inches in 3 directions and adhered to the original wall and whatever adhesive works on the butted area if you really want a bit extra and then plaster on the front. If you can't see a join and it holds the weight then its "right". These guys make the stuff so I would hope they know what they are doing. kzread.info/dash/bejne/aoxnwcFwgrDNfbQ.html

  • @GSHElectrical

    @GSHElectrical

    6 жыл бұрын

    +diprobase1000 Hi. Yes you would... you would have to cut away the plaster board over strut and bring the cable out and over it before it goes back into the wall. This cut must be kept in line with the socket either horizontally or vertically so it's in prescribed wiring areas stated in the On-Site Guide. Hope this helps GSH Electrical

  • @GSHElectrical

    @GSHElectrical

    6 жыл бұрын

    +Roy Kirkham Loads of tests Before starting the socket on the ring final circuit (the one in the hall) needs testing for ring continuity/polarity, then insulation resistance, next earth fault loop impedance and RCD tests. If all those results are correct then the extra socket can be added. On completion a minor works needs filling out and the tests stated above repeated... that's why I didn't show me adding the socket.

  • @GSHElectrical

    @GSHElectrical

    +Roy Kirkham Totally... what if the new socket had no earth or its impedance was to high that it wouldn't disconnect the overcurrent device (fuse) in time which could cause a massive risk of shock, fire and explosions... that's why we always test. Thanks for the great questions GSH Electrical

    If you hit a strut, why not just use a metal box and fix it to the strut. May have a bit of chiselling to do but easy if you have a multi tool. Agree with others to use a stanley type knife to score the board first prior to cutting it with a course saw,
