How to fish a plastic worm plus a giant Bass

Спорт

I show the viewer the ABC's of plastic worm fishing, Roland Martin style! I show all the proper way to retrieve and set the hook as well, then I take the viewer to bank fishing in Missouri where I catch a bass nearly 10 pounds!

Hey Roland, about 17 years ago I sold your son a house down here in Fl. We talked about fishing, and I told him I hadn’t fished for bass since I moved to Florida. He was generous enough to take me out fishing one afternoon and show me how to Texas rig a line and catch bass out of the ponds. Today, my son helped my three-year-old grandson reel in an 18 inch beauty! Tell him I said, thank you again!! Bryan

Hey Roland, love you man. I've been watching you since 1978 I was 8 yrs old. It was about that time that I remember the first time I ever fished a plastic worm. My grandmother and I were fishing in our pond on the farm and she pulls out a pack of the old blueberry blue worms. We caught the mess out of them that day. My grandmother years later in the assisted living place would tell people about that day and how the blue worm was the best. She couldn't remember what she had for lunch but she could tell you every detail about how she fished that blue worm.

Thank you for sharing! One time when I was about 8 years old (Around 1991) I lived in the ghetto in California in the Bay Area and I was riding my bike around the neighborhood and saw a garage sale and they had a bunch of fishing poles in a 5-Gallon bucket for sale. I saw a pole I liked and picked it up and was just playing with it imagining myself somewhere by some water away from the ghetto because I had never been fishing before... When the garage sale owner walked up, he was an off duty police officer and he had seen me around and knew my family situation because he was always getting called to my house for a lot of different stuff, so he looked at me and said "You ever been fishing?" I said "No, my dad is in prison and the only other guys around me are all drug addicts and gang members and they are always to busy and even if we ever did go to the water we can't stay long because something ALWAYS happens..." He just said "Well I know thing's are not easy for you but you are a good kid and maybe one day you will be able to make it out to the water! And if you do I want you to be able to enjoy yourself and go fishing, so if that is the pole you like you can have it!" I got really excited but I said "My mom always tells me not to talk to strangers though!".... He said "We know each other because I come to your house often, and plus I live two blocks away so we are almost neighbors!" I said "Okay, but I don't have any money and my mom will think I stole it! If I go home with it I will get my butt spanked for stealing!" He said "Tell your mom I was having a garage sale and that I gave it to you for free! But if you don't feel comfortable taking it for free you can always take it now and maybe later some day you can come back and mow my lawn or something!" So I told him thank you and I went home and all day long I sat in my yard with just a weight tied to the end and my front yard was kind of big so I was practicing casting it across my yard, and about 3 hours of just casting it in the yard I thought to myself "I wonder if I could cast this baby all the way across the street?"... I heard a few gunshots like a block away so I was about to run inside but that thought if I can cast that far was getting me so I closed my eyes and casted it as hard as I could! At that very second a car (THE CAR) from the shooting flew by with two cop cars chasing him and when I opened my eyes I seen the drive-by car go by, my line with the weight went in the driver side window so fast it flew past the drivers mask covered face, and out the passenger window and the weight went through a hole across the street of a chain link fence and the car was going so fast it yanked the pole out of my hand and into the Monte Carlo!!!!! HAHAHA My mom knew I was outside so she comes running out because she heard the shots and the cars fly by she yelled "What are you doing? Get away from the street!" I said "No but that guys car took my fishing pole!" She yelled "Get in the house now! Didn't you hear those gun shots???" I said "Yea I was playing with my new fishing pole and it stuck to the car and went away!" She said "Fool you never even had a damn fishing pole! Get in the house now!" HAHAHA Then about two weeks later we ended up moving and I always felt bad I never got to go mow that officers yard for the pole but I was just a kid and we had moved hours away! My mom never even got to see that fishing pole and all I could do was dream of my 3 hours of ownership I had with it! I can still see it all clear as day! How crazy is that the chance I cast and it goes in one side of the get away car and out the other lol.... I also always wondered what happened to the driver.... And my pole! But I told my grandpa about it when I went to see him and he took me and bought me a pole at a second hand store. A Zebco! I am all grown up now and older and I try to fish every weekend if I can! Even if I don't catch anything! I just enjoy being at the water and away from the ghetto!

Glad he mentioned line watching. Often your line doesn't shoot out, the line just sits funny in the water.that means a fish picked the worm up but isn't running. I always say," the slower the day the slower you fish the worm." I had slow days when the only bite was from an 8lb bass . Not so bad catching only 1 fish if it's a big one!

Years ago ROLAND had an episode on his show he was in Midnight Alaska throwing big spinner baits for pike. Coolest episode seeing the monster pike!! I taped it on VHS as a kid and watched it probably 100 times

Amazing how many bass I've caught casting the worm it sits on the bottom. And I'm having a protein bar or something to eat. I think a lot of people bring the worm in to fast. I'm guilty of it myself sometimes

LOL, I remember as a kid when people used to laugh at me for fishing rubber worms when they first came out (pre-rigged Creme 6" purple, around 1964-65). Caught a ton of bass and everytime anyone asked if I caught anything I replied NO. Joke was on them!
