You got this! I created a video on how I make my candles which shows how I mix my oils into the wax, measurements, tools, etc. kzread.info/dash/bejne/q5maqdunocSWj7w.html Hope this helps!

  • @ParisNikkole

    @ParisNikkole

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks so much Erica! ❤️ As far as fragrance to wax ratio you have to decide what percentage of fragrance you need to have a great hot and cold throw. I use a 10% fragrance load in most of my candles. Some fragrance oils require 11% but I have found that 12% is too much. So for 330-340 grams of wax I would use 33-34 grams of fragrance oil for a 10% load. There is a calculation you can use as well (oz/g of wax using) x (% of fragrance oil you want to use) = (oz/g of fragrance oil needed). I also have the full chart in my candle making ebook payhip.com/b/WfIvq

  • @UnicornBarbie561
    @UnicornBarbie5612 жыл бұрын

    So if you are doing multiple candles would you subtract the 12.1 from the 13.3 to know how much less wax you would need? This wouldn’t work with multiple candles and your fragrance oil will be off

    I have wax that I messed up on the FO so I placed it in old soap silicone molds to have on hand for this. I take that wax, melt the ounces according to what manufacturer says fits into the container, place container on the scale & pour the wax up to the proper fill line and that is how I find out how much wax each container will hold. Since that wax already has FO I know it's precise. I pour the wax back into the silicone mold to harden again for another day of testing & clean out the container unless I am using it for burn testing.

    That is a simple way but doing the math is more exact for consistency. The wax is one thing that needs to be added to the jar but the fragrance oil is another factor. However just for trying to figure things out this works as well. I hate math but once i figured it out i was like bingo so i can have consistency in all my candles for testing, mistakes and etc

    Love your videos!!! Thank you Hope you’re well First of all thank for all your videos! Helped me so much. I have question How do you know how much unmelted wax you need for your candles? Example I know my fill weight is 220g but if I need to make 1 candle for a sample I can’t figure out how much unmelted wax I need to heat. Trying to reduce waste.

  • @ParisNikkole

    @ParisNikkole

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks so much! As far as unmelted wax is concerned, I generally don't know how much I will need. However, now that I have a melting pot, I tend to just pour the wax directly into the jar when I am trying to figure out how much wax I need for a new jar. The jar will be siting on the scale of course so I will get my weight that way. Also, even if you melt too much wax when using a double boiler, use what you need and allow the remainder of wax to solidify because you can still reuse that wax. You don't have to trash it after it has been melted down.

    Hello could you help me please so I made a (16 oz) candle and I poured 308 grams of wax into the jar which was perfect. But my question is since my jar just holds 308 grams of wax how do I go by calculating it to find how much fragrance I need? And if I wanted to make to make three 16 oz jars how do I calculate that including the fragrance oil please help me break it down in depth? I want to use 12 percent of fragrance oil.

  • @melaniesimeon7107

    I love it!! But my confusion is how much would you add of the fragrance oil?

  • @ParisNikkole

    @ParisNikkole

    3 жыл бұрын

    Thanks so much! 🤗 Depends on the jar you are using, wax type, wick, % of fragrance oil you want to use, etc. All candles are not created equal. I use more fragrance oil in coco apricot wax than in coco soy wax and sometimes if the fragrance oil is super strong I use less and if it is weak, I will use more to make sure my candles are giving the same hot throw, no matter the scent. It is all about the testing.

    Can I use the double boiler method on a stove rather than a hot plate?

  • @os2841
    @os28413 жыл бұрын

    Easier way with no water: Fill your container with dry wax pellets to full, then melt them and add, it will be not quite full because of air pockets. No need to make this complicated. Once your candle has solidified weigh it and subtract the weight of thr empty jar to get your wax wight for next time. A few drops of scent is negligent and wont make much difference, but you can add its weight too if you must.

  • @twistedvanilla3456
    @twistedvanilla34565 ай бұрын

    You could have taken the 13.5 ounces and multiplied that by 0.9 and that would give you the amount of wax. 13.5×0.9=12.15. 0.9 is the difference of weight from water to wax(density). So you had extra wax left over doing it this way. You can take any jar fill it with water then multiply that by 0.9 and that will give you your wax amount for that specific jar.

    Thanks so much! So, in order to calculate the fragrance to wax ratio (oz of wax using) x (% of fragrance oil you want to use) = (oz of fragrance oil needed) For example, let's say you are using 16 ounces of wax and want to use 6% fragrance oil. Your calculation would be as follows: 16oz (453g) x 6% = .96 oz (27.2g) Hope this helps! 😊

  • @ParisNikkole

    @ParisNikkole

    Жыл бұрын

    Hey! That would take a lot of time and effort. Plus I am afraid that the heat gun, if used too long in one spot would overheat as well as overheat the wax. So, I prefer to burn the candle to completion and then clean the vessel and repurpose it.

  • @ParisNikkole

    Absolutely! I actually recommend to find a candle making starter kit to test it out. Brambleberry and Candle Science has great starter kits! For my soft launch I purchased 16 ounces of fragrance oils and around 90 pounds of wax. I made 10 jar candles and 10 tin candles of each fragrance (I had 30 fragrances). This was expensive but it allowed me to see what the customers actually want to buy. Some of the scents that I thought would do well, sold the least. It will be a lot of trial and error in the beginning but once you begin selling you will be able to dive into customer analytics and make some changes to boost your sales and cater to your customers wants! Good Luck!

  • @ParisNikkole

    Alibaba is the best place to purchase in bulk because you will receive the best price. Any supplier in the US will be much more expensive. In any case, you can buy from wooden wick co. and dream vessels which sell in bulk but again the prices are higher than what is offered overseas, just depends on how much you need to order.

    A little confused so what you’re saying is you measure out the wax whatever you want how much it measures two and deduct 1% or one part of that so let’s say the candle was 11.5 you would do 10 as the number? And that would be the amount that you would also use for the fragrance?

    So how do I calculate the percentage of oil? This was a simple method and I appreciate it. I am beginning candle making. Thank you

  • @ParisNikkole

    @ParisNikkole

    11 ай бұрын

    Glad it was helpful! To calculate the percentage of fragrance oil you will first need to determine if you want 10%, 11% or 12% fragrance load. You would then multiply the amount of was by the % of fragrance oil which gives you the amount you need to add to each candle. So for example, a 340g candle with a 10% fragrance load will need 34g of fragrance oil. Check out my candle testing workbook to help you with formulas, etc. DIGITAL VERSION: payhip.com/b/WfIvq PAPERBACK VERSION: www.amazon.com/dp/B0C1J2GV3M/ref=sr_1_1?crid=22TOPOCYT3JV1&keywords=candle+testing+workbook&qid=1681703322&sprefix=candle+testing+workbook%2Caps%2C98&sr=8-1

    You don't need to add the fragrance oil to find your wax fill weight. The fragrance oil will not make a difference because it doesn't weigh much at all. Now, if you are trying to find your wax to fragrance oil ratio that is different. You will need to test your candles using different fragrance oil percentages to see what works (8%, 9%, 10%). Good Luck! ❤️

    The general rule is to put between 10% - 12% fragrance load. So test your candle with 10%, 11% and 12% fragrance load. Then check the cold throw and hot throw on each. If it’s too strong then go down. If it’s not strong enough go up but never over 12% fragrance load.
