Love the info. Its similar style to dan infalt..love him as well.. 1 thing that has really helped me is slowing way down when entering and exiting.. by slowing down i somtimes kick a buck out of his bed when i walk in or out.. obviously i mark that spot and actually go look at bed and investigate to figure out entry / exit trails. Kicking a buck out of his bed once generaly doesnt ruin that spot .now if it happens 2 or 3 days in a row yes he will most likly relocate for a period. But if you do pinpoint a bed get back on it and use wind and weather conditions like rain wind or day after rain to sneak in close with favorable winds. Take your time. This is key..use your binos while slowy creeping closer and be looking for the correct tree before you get to it.. you definatly dont wanna walk around or past the tree you are planning to hunt in. It just speads your scent around the area. Try not to cross trails leading away from bedding, because if you are after a tropht alot of times you have to beat those pesky does noses first b4 the buck comes by.. i hunt southern il.. live in clinton co.. hunt clinton washington union randolph perry jackson and even bond now and then.. goodluxk to all .. get after it and just have fun.. thanks for info.. please keep up the videos.. its very good stuff.

I agree with everything you said. Yes, Dan is a great guy and advocate for deer hunting. I've learned a lot from him. What's it like living in southern Illinois? Is there a high deer density, relative to the population?

@@RelentlessSportsman i only hunt in illinois so im not sure how it compares but some days ill see alot of deer and most days i see very few.. i would say we have decent numbers.. i seem to see more when i travel farther south around shawnee. I enjoy your content and have alot of respect for what you do.. i imagine its alot of work doing these videos

Good points. Question: On the public land I hunt, and I am sure it is similar for many, most of the people that are scouting are looking for the same things you talk about here. They set up and walk through these areas so much that they move the deer out, or cause them to be nocturnal. This is my question: Never mind, I will go on to your next video where you are addressing this very question. :)

How about pine trees to hardwood transitions?

Question: Presumably, we'll be scouting during the daylight hours - which is when bucks are bedded. If I find a buck bed, it's possible that I bumped him out or it's an old bed. If I've bumped him, how likely is it that he uses that bed again? If it's an old bed, how likely am I to harvest him if I set up 75 yards from the old bed?

It's definitely possible to bump a buck on bed during the day. I've done this several times. If you feel the bed is warm, then he was probably just there. You can find other beds not being used too. It's hard to bump a mature buck completely out of his bedding area for good. They usually come back at some point, but may use a different bed in that area, depending on wind and pressure. It's an open ended answer because there are no absolutes with hunting, as I'm sure you know. Also, I really believe it depends on the state and area you're hunting in. A state like Kansas or Iowa is much different than where I hunt in WI. If you setup near an old bed, it's not likely to harvest him because there's a good chance he's using a different bed with a different exit trail. However, sometimes they will have the same general exit trail toward a food source that leaves their bedding area. I could talk about this all day, but I'm also trying to keep my answer shorter and to the point. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching. Let me know if you have more questions.

When walking these edges do you walk on the swamp side or inside of the thick woods?

I appreciate you asking this question because it made me rethink about how I explained this concept in the video. In other words, I should have explained what you're asking. To answer your question, I would walk on the swamp side during the off season and the thick woods during the season. During the off season I'm walking the swamp, looking for best and heavily used trails leading to the 'woods'. During the season, I'm looking for heaving trails coming into the woods, leading to rubs and scrapes.
