Ryan shows us a great tip on how to fillet fish by leaving one side on! Even if you have filleted heaps of fish in your time, not many people know that you can get more flesh off the fish fillet by leaving one side on!
In this tip Ryan specifically looks at King Threadfin Salmon, a premier sports fish in Australia. Thread fin have protruding nodules on the backbone which can make filleting difficult.
This comprehensive fish filleting video can be adapted for almost any species of fish bar flatfish such as flathead and sole.
You don't need a sharp knife or even a filleting knife, it is the filleting technique and a simple trick that will have you looking like a pro.

We don't have any fish like that around here, but this video taught me some new things that I can implement next time I fillet a fish. Thanks for the video.

Great tips for cleaning the threadfin. We have the much smaller species in Hawaii, but I'll check for those nodules. Threadfins were so valuable they are called mo'i in Hawaii. This meant that only royalty was allowed to eat them. Good fishing!
