How to Feed a New Panel - Underground (in-depth voiceover)

If you saw my last video, I installed 16 LED lights inside of this barn. HERE is the in-depth tutorial on how we brought power over for the new lights!

Great filming and narration Karly! And loved the part where you mentioned that you wish you had turned the printing on the PVC toward the back to hide it - shows how proud you are of your work and want to make it look neat and professional - great to see!

Some AHJ want to be able to read the markings, especially were schedule 80 pvc is required vs schedule 40

So why didn't you just go straight from LB through the wall and into the main panel?

I would say because the single conductor in the pvc isn’t fireproof rated to enter a bldg. Same as in the USA, Underground Residential Distribution ( URD ) cable has to terminate at the exterior of a structure.

Since that "Teck cable", ACWU, doesn't have the jacket sheathing the conductors under the armor you are supposed to use a bushing like what is used with AC90 cable. Other than that looks like a good install, I'd prefer the J-box turned a 1/4 rotation so the top of the box is less likely to hold water, and water running off the top will not run down the sides of the box.

Those polaris split bolts have saved me SO MUCH headache in recent years...no more rubber, electrical and tension tapes working together for me. Life lasts, next step in this area would be some sort of compression-insultated way of splicing.

Do you guys put weep holes in the bottom of those PVC J boxes? I put a few 3/16 holes in to let the water out that always gets in by that PVC Male. I have found standing water in those without and joints being corroded.

Since i'm from Austria and we have different regulations and material i never heard about anything called DB2 before. So i asked google about it and it appears that DB2 is just some pipe thats made of pvc. So if it's already made of pvc, why does your code say you have to change it to pvc?

The pipe underground isn’t even listed for electrical raceway, it’s DWV pipe and its diameter wall doesn’t meet the physical protection properties of electrical conduit….hence, the transition

  • @va4cqd

@@GypsyMoFoJoe thats not dwv pipe. its intended for underground or concrete encasement only. it has a thinner wall and is not UV light rated
