How to Fabricate a Guard: Including guard FAIL! Single and double quillion guard Zac Buchanan Knives

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video Zac Buchanan shows and talks about the methods he uses to make a guard. Including a metal double quillion guard and a micarta collar guard. Zac talks about simple math equations to make and center a slot in the guard material, as well as how to execute the process.
Zac makes and fails to catch a simple mathematical error that results in him ruining a piece of guard material. He is then forced to quickly remake the same guard.
Zac uses a milling machine, bandsaw, drill press and 2”x72” grinder to create two guards. Featuring a RW Loveless style Dixon Fighter and the Zac Buchanan design McGavin.

Hey Zac, this is real precision work. I'm afraid now I'll have to buy a milling machine. My wife will be delighted 😁.

I’ll try to make a video following along with the McGavin build, thanks for watching. The two holes are lashing holes, they allow the blade to be tied to something like a stick to be cone a spear. Loveless put the in the quillion of the guard. I’ve never seen anyone do the lashings in the ricasso. I don’t wanna say I’m the first because realistically it could’ve been done before, but I will say I’ve never seen it either!

Great videos but shorten the amount of cutter hanging out of the collet it will make your cutter last much longer and you can take bigger cuts

Sorry but Stopped watching after a few minutes. Found boring, No one wants to watch a camera shot of a glove just sitting there that early into the video. Sorry ,but this one just didn't do it for me..

Sorry to disappoint but I don’t make videos professionally, I’m a knife maker. I’d suggest using fast forward if there is something you don’t want to see.
