MORE ABOUT THIS VIDEO 😃
⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯
You have to visit a Spanish traditional food market next time you’re in Spain. Noisy, busy, full of wonderful smells and overflowing with people - they’re a feast for all the sense. I love my local market (the Mercado de Antón Martín - featured in this video). Ham, cheese, wine, olive oil, saffron, paprika, bread, meat, fruit and vegetables - these places are gastronomic wonderlands. But they’re also fabulous cultural places - every Spanish market has at least a few bars, and they’re always a fun place to hang out for a drink after you’ve finished your shopping.
So here is what I suggest. If you’re living or staying in Spain, give the supermarkets are miss (unless you need canned goods or cleaning products) and for all your fresh produce needs, head to the nearest local market. They’re the best place to stock up your apartment if you’re staying in an AirBnB or simply to grab some delicious stables for a picnic in the park. An important thing to remember is that if you want to try Spain’s incredible wines, hams and cheeses - they’ll be much cheaper in the market than in a tapas bar. And do make the perfect picnic hamper fillers.
In this video I explore the Antón Martín market, which is nearby my office (it’s where I shop after work). I hit the Jamón booth, a fabulous cheese stall, the fruit stand, an olive stand, an offal stand, a place for olive oil, paprika and saffron, as well as a chicken shop and an excellent bakery. Along the way you’ll get tips and tricks for tackling your local market on your own!

Jajaja me tambien, excepto para los carnes. Yo soy pescetarian, no como algunas carne como la carne de vaca y lamb. Y el problema es, I cannot see raw meat cut off. So I just skip the part when Luis cut off the meat. T_T But the rest of foods seem so delicious.

I feel Spanish is the best! The food is so flavoursome! One of the highlights, for me, during my holidays in Spain is going to the markets... I really think your Devour Tours videos are the best English language videos on Spanish food and culture; I've seen many (a lot of American) videos and non compare to the quality your producing. There - said it. A
If you go to spain you must try the fruit and vegetables. When we go abroad Spanish people miss two things ham and vegetables, that's how good and important they are for us. My brother just came from Ireland and God, he missed our food.
Spent a year living in Spain improving my Spanish and watching your videos has brought back great memories! Great videos and I'm now craving some jamón, queso manchego and Ribera del Duero! Hope you do more videos! ¡Saludos desde escocia!

Como dato, Spain is a giant in the olive oil world. The country produces almost half of the world’s olive oil, more than three times as much as Italy, Greece or Tunisia. Over 250 million olive trees grow in Spain. Jaen is the largest producer of Olive Oil in Spain and also world-wide. Just the province of Jaen produces more than the second largest producer country, Italy.
Admirable

I remember going with my mom to Prosperidad market when I was little and it was amazing. After, at the 90's, the big supermarkets came and lots of tradicionals markets dissppeared. Now some of the tradicionals markets are coming back and it is fastastic, the quality is better. I discovered your Chanel yesterday and it is very cool. By the way, the Spanish olive oil is much better than the italian one...sometimes, the italian olive oil is mixed with oil from Morocco, with has no the proper sanitary controls. I wish we export more olive oil to the rest of the world, it is really good. Besitos desde los Madriles

I thought you were saying ‘James Black’ in your NZ accent, now I see its ‘Blick’ lol. Just discovered your channel and I love it. I fully intend to retire to Andalucía, which is why I’m frantically learning Spanish. Fantastic videos guys, thanks for all the hard work. Congratulations on your baby, take care. 😀
In Andalucía we usually ask ¿Quien es la última? (or el último if there are males involved) At the butchers you didn't mention rabbits (conejos) which are always sold with the head still attached. Why? - because without the head, you would find it very difficult to know that it wasn't a cat - they look almost identical once the fur has been removed. How do you tell the difference - a rabbit is a rodent and a cat is a carnivore - look at the teeth!

That explains why the shopkeepers were behaving a little iffy when I hand-selected the melocotóns I wanted to consume back in the hotel room (on the same day) after dinner... *I'm from Singapore; not being able to choose the produce we purchase for our consumption is unheard of! :D

Even in Australia, chicken was a luxury protein, as lamb was common in our diet in the 70's. You pay a fortune for lamb shanks and lamb cutlets now. We would have, roast pork, ham and the winner was chicken on Christmas day. I know, hot roast on a humid Christmas day.
Loved it.... especially the family pictures.
Pareja, cada día lo hacéis mejor!!! Felicitaciones
So cool I love this... very well done. Love your candor and fun with the chefs from around the world. I loved how you focused on the story behind each tapa which as you said really says so much about the place they are from and how it is now reflected in food. Truly interesting and deserves further exploration by someone... You're a very lucky man doing it now .. and in Spain! Looking forward to the next episodes! ... Vamos! 3rd day in Spain. After a morning exploring the Prado museum, we're see off to find a flamenco academy my wife wants to check out. Wouldn't you know it, ITS IN MERCADO ANTON MARTIN! So here I am sitting at Latazo having a vermut de grifa, writing yet another post about one of your videos James. I even took a pic of Polleria Hernandez (closed today) just outside. We are going to end up running into each other. The market is much more than I expected, much larger, actually 3 floors. I count at least 5 butcher shops, a dozen little shop/bars, not to mention the flamenco academy at the top. Wonderful market.....now I have to find the olive guy....
