Very smart shove on the river, but kinda blender on the turn. Blender from villan also. I would raise you on this turn with 5-5 and you would have to fold out your equity. With pocket fives its yeasy raise-fold on the turn.

Probably the best call in hand I’ve listened to. This guy is good and knew how to exploit his opponent. Him and Bart going back n forth on lines and optimal strategy was great.

9:10 - Hero bluffs the turn because hero is "the only player capable of folding Jacks". Hero show's down with 55? To me it sounds like the caller is throwing bets at random and making up reasons for doing so after the event.

@@tassv5909 barreling with a draw is much better then with QQ or KK. On this board you dont have to protect QQ or KK on the turn and you get to really nasty spot if raised. So turn bet is with a draw or trips/better, esoecially dip. AA, KK, QQ just check if its single raised hand and ranges are wide.

The hero’s reason for turn bet was “he’s good enough to fold over pairs”, then the reason for the river jam was “he’s good enough to make hero calls”. Glad it worked out this time, but if the hero was actually jamming most rivers like he said he would, it’d definitely be beneficial to stay consistent with your logic.

Pretty sure the implication was, he can fold over pairs on a clean runout. The ace significantly changes things, I don’t think these things are mutually exclusive

@@StreetSoulLover idk if that's true, hero's value range that wants to shove on an A river is super small, whereas on like a 2 that range is much wider. So it actually seems really bluffy for hero to blast 3 streets on this runout specifically. I think if I'm sitting there with 55 as villian (assuming I call turn) on the river I'd be thinking hero has plenty of bluff combos and really not many value combos.

@@kennethdick1998 but how does the A make him less likely to fold? If he can fold an overpair can't he also fold a pair thats not an overpair?

I have learned that raising/check raising a good player on the river of a dry board, results in them folding anything other than top pair every time. The hand has them betting flop. Checking turn, betting river. Raise them. They fold. I get away with this 3 or 4x a session. And maybe once every 2 or 3 sessions I actually hit a freaky 2 pair or river set.

This is a great hand and really shows how knowing your opponent helps a ton on big spots

I’d like to see Bart go back over the hand, once we learn what villain has, and talk about how to play their hand more effectively against heroes line

What I love is it goes from I'll jam any river cuz villain will fold jacks to I'll jam top pair cuz villain will call jacks. Poker is fun

OMG Bart thanks for the analysis ~@7:14 about NL vs PL. I've been thinking about NL vs PL lately. My idea is NL & PL theory "merge" around 50 BB's. I think much of the "old school" poker advice is based on "merged" NL/PL concepts, where an initial 50 BB buy in was the standard adjustment to having no cap. There's a strong argument that PL is the "most skilled" form of Hold'em. For example, a passive player can't win big at PL, for the same reason a maniac can't just spew their entire (big) stack in one bet. With deep stacks in PL, only a skilled player could even get their whole stack into the pot and get called by much worse.

That is crazy almost the same thing happened to me this weekend. Only difference really was I had an over pair and a brick came on the river. I went all in and was called down by pocket 5s

In reference to your question weather to bet on the turn, you have the blasts this bet and get him off his pocket sixes. You have to represent a high pair or give up.

Theory wise 55 is a better call than JJ

I don't get why this is too thin against bad players. Bad players are stations who don't often trap. The most likely hand they have here is 99-JJ. A5 (with the 65 backdoor flush blocker) is definitely good enough to value jam here. KK & QQ are also easy value jams.

Yeah he has all 18 combos of 99-JJ. There’s 5 combos of 87s, 76s and A7s and then 7 combos of 88,77,44. And at least some of the time those combos will raise flop or turn. Especially they’d be wanting to raise turn to avoid a scare card (5, 6 or a diamond) coming on the river that means it goes check-check.

Lol you guys have obviously never played with bad players. Bad players do not check call flop and turn with overpairs on a 7748 board lmao they get scared of overcards coming. They eventually start shoveling money in on flop or turn. Bad players with 99-JJ will check raise that flop or check jam that turn.

I'm confused with v and his decision making post flop..pre too but anyway...if we are not reraising that flop that should crush our range with another left to act then we are...hoping to hit a set on the turn?? So we miss on turn...shocker..BUT another card falls squarely in our range..we call...hopefully after a round of shots and a bong rip so it's not a total loss..then when the river hits opponents range we call off? What am I missing?

I dont like river jam. I personally need a much better explanation than "background between players".. like what hands does he usually call with? What are we repping and that make sense we've been repping every other street?? The fact he is a "good" player is more reason I dont like jam. Caller goes from "hes the type of player that can make a big fold on the turn, like he can fold Jack's ect..." Then he's saying "he's the type of player who can make a big hero call" on the river... well which is it? And which is most likey in this situation?

I love this all-in. I actually think this would work against most loose 2/5 so fla players that I face.

Nice video I practice putting people in ranges and these videos help me a lot

so if the river was a blank, caller was gonna jam because "opponent might be capable of folding too much" but now that he hit the river, he is jamming because "opponent might be capable of CALLING too much"??? something doesn't add up.

Do you guys think that the villain would lead out on the river with a very strong hand to prevent a possible Ace from taking his showdown value and checking back?

The correct term for "blockers" is "very slightly less chance" they have that. I'm sure the guy with 55 was thinking "l block" or "he can't have" A5 suited...etc...

@@mr.b865 Well... suppose there's a 9 on the flop.... if you hold a nine, the chances that your opponent has a set of 9's is reduced by 2/3rds, from 3 combinations to 1.... so it can have a serious impact Anyway, originally I just thought it was funny :)

It's all dependent on the turn action imo, does villian X/R on the turn to setup for a river jam, or do you slowplay your monster? Guess it depends if you think hero has bluffs or not in this spot

Haven’t gotten to the River yet, but I’m just thinking I don’t like the turn bet at all. My first complaint is the sizing: why bet 225 and not 170, leaving a full pot sized bet on the River left? Weird sizing. I can get behind a bet against an average sticky donk, I think, who might get nervous with like 99 and 1010 or have peeled with suited broadways or some garbage, but against a good player, what are you folding out? 6 combos of 99 and a couple partials of 1010? 66? Blocked 55? Not seeing it vs a good player who isn’t peeling with garbage on the flop.

On the River: I agree it’s usually a check, but should we discount some of the bigger hands for a normal/unknown villain because they don’t lead out? Aren’t a decent number of things like boats going to want to lead out small?

How was the live read the whole time not “this is my roommate, he’s a station who slowplays his big hands and calls light, and we bluff each other a lot so he’s going to call down with all kinds of trash”???

It sounds like this bluff was never going through and he spiked a 7 outer that saved him from a huge misread.

Your opponent has a serious soul read on you. Ignore the river, but he (correctly) didn't believe you ANYTHING.

The jam at the river isn't correct IMO. Hero might value-own himself against a range of hands 7-8, 4's, 8's, Any A10x or bigger pocket pairs that might be slow-playing. There are far more hands that beats him.
