Hi Musab, yes there is an alternative If you don’t want them to chop your SA license. You can alternatively submit a letter of confirmation from the SA department of Transport. You email them and request the letter, also attach your ID. Just take note they take a while to respond and you have to collect the letter from their offices in Midrand yourself or send someone to collect on your behalf. Thanks Mr Sebake 😀. It definitely provides lots of independence. Lol well sometimes one wants to rent a car to take those long trips around the country, the license comes in handy there.

Hi. No I don’t think you need to be UK citizen to replace it. You can apply for the conversion online or at a NDLS branch. You should be fine to convert a UK license into an Irish one. Just remember you will need to hand it over when you apply for an Irish one. Otherwise you will need a letter from UK stating and confirming that you are a driver there.

Does that mean when you visit South Africa,you can't drive since your license card was chopped off?

Hi Andy. South Africans do not require a to enter Ireland. You can visit for upto 90 days but you have to have some documentation. For example a booking of where you will be staying and letter of invitation and the type of relationship to the person you are visit if it is not for a holiday. If you are coming to study, you will need to present your passport and offer of acceptance from the university you are going to study at. During the 90 days you will have to apply for a student Visa at immigration office in your area. That visa is valid for a year. Hope this helps.

Ishmael if i may ask to exchange sa license in ireland do they just exchange it even if you had the license recently in SA or they is a waiting period down there

Hi Allington, there is no waiting period. it does not matter how long you have had SA the license. They just exchange it and give you an Irish one valid for 10 years from date of issue.

I will like to ask I got code 14 the will aple to exchange that

Yes you will still be able to exchange that. There are no restrictions on any type of a license.

You cant do that as Nigeria is not on the list of countries that can convert. You have to go through the entire process starting with a leaners permit then test drives for a full drivers license. Goodluck
