When you exchange your old license for the new uk one, do you get the full 10 years on the new one before it expires or only as long as your original was valid for?

hiya please i need your help. I got here last year and i’m a student i sent my passport with my licence and i think it took about 3months to get something. The problem is i changed addresses within that time so when royal mail sent a card that there’s something by the post the residents living in that house told me after some a while. I got the card and went to royal mail to get the parcel but the told me it’s already been 18days and they sent the parcel back to the sender. Now how do i contact them…i called them but everytime i call they say line busy for more information visit the website then they hang up. They don’t pick calls at all. So i was wondering if there are any offices near by, i live in Hatfield so how do i get atleast my passport back or contact them??? Please

A question please , how they guarantee that I provided the license and identity proof. I feel there’s no validation or when you deliver the D1 it will be validated through the post office.

Hey, my husband’s South African drivers licence has expired and he is planning on coming over to the UK in the next few weeks as his just received his visa. Would he be able to get a British drivers licence if he does the test here although he will not be considered a resident yet or will he need to renew it in South Africa?

Did you lose the years on the driving licence?? Or they backdated it like the one from South Africa??

You can only transfer a code 8 or car license. You can't do a truck license, that you will have to do a retest.

Hi, I lived in the UK for about 13 years but due to circumstances I returned to SA (the last 6 years). FYI, when I returned to SA I was not able to add the motorcycle licence that I added in the UK onto my SA licence (SA broken bureaucracy). Anyway I'm on my way back to the UK and I wish I had these videos when I went to the UK in 2000. Your videos are very interesting and informative keep it up. Cheers 👍🏻

But how do you fill out the D1 Form??? This is the question everyone is asking. No where does it have an option for exchanging your home license for a UK license. And we do not want a provisional license either, we want the full final license.

That's weird because I know some one who just converted his SA drivers license and he just received a provisional license, told him to call DVLA in the morning to sort it out

Hi, I need help please, I moved to the UK in Nov 2023 (BRP), I sent in my SA license for exchange, it was rejected as the DVLA do not recognize EC1, I then resubmitted my application with evidence of my license (eNaTIS), I also attached a letter to say that I wanted to exchange if for a UK B category license, but still they rejected my application, I have since sent several emails to RTMC asking if it would be possible to downgrade my license from EC1 to a code B and they simply do not reply, any suggestions and recommendation would be greatly appreciated.

I don't believe you covered what happens whilst you wait for your UK license to arrive. Can you just not drive in that period? That does not seem right? Do you have a temp UK license or something?

I went to south Africa for about a month and passed my tests there and got the south african licence. Can exchange it to the uk driving liecence since south Africa is one of the designated countries? will these things have an issue: 1) Previously filled D1 form for uk professional licensee. 2) Is there time duration condition where you must stayed in south Africa. for example, I was only there for a month. Lols thats true but driving in uk is less risky then southafrica coz here drivers follow rules but in south jumping robots is a piece of cake
