My first piece of advice would be to take a break. Spend a few days or maybe even weeks to play other games and then come back, see if you feel any different. Maybe just shelve it for a while. That’s typically works for me when I get tired of other games

For so long I wanted to try and get in to space engineers servers, 90% of my playtime is building stuff in creative and the other 9% is playing a normal survival world with some freinds what I never managed to get is some fun conflict, some fun wars and battles to egage in, while with mods you can fix that for me the biggest problem with combat in space engineers is that survival mode is slow painfully slow to the point that you dont want to fight cause you just spend a whole day building your capital ship, why send it to get demolished by some tryhard in less than a minute? The horribly slow pace of survival is allways my biggest issue in the game as it prevents me from doing the fun stuff like testing out my ships I desgined aginst other players

How to fix the game: Add actual npcs inside the pirate ships Make npcs raid your bases Add more stuff on planets/space Add larger abandoned structures with creatures and maybe zombies inside Add animals and more plants on planets (like no man's sky) Make exploration more fun rather than finding the same boring broken ship or more pirate Add cities on planets where you can have npcs Make ai vehicles more common Add space highways with buildings found near them (can be used for trucking jobs) Add jobs (trucking, hunting animals on planets) Make planets more fun to explore (making them more similar to planets in no man's sky)

I know this is a sandbox game but the devs should work on a single player experience anyway. They should add massive cities, abandonned bases etc. I know theres mods for that but the devs should work on making the world less empty. Minecraft is a sandbox game yet there are multiple places to visits, villages, abandonned mineshatfs, caves, etc.

"Change it up" is a great periodic reminder both in SE and in life. :D I just crossed 2900 hours in SE, but over the years I left the game several times for long breaks. I didn't try an MP server or hosted SE game with 1-2 other people until first time last month. Heck, I started after the planets update, and didn't even leave the earthlike planet or the nearby space just outside its gravity well on any playthrough for the first 2000+ hours. :D I still haven't tried everything ingame or every major mod. (Haven't touched WeaponCore in 3 years) But what kept my interest going was a cycle of: Play survival for a few weeks. Run into new problems or needs. Switch to creative world with same mod set. Experiment with solutions. Get inspired with random new ideas or developments from initial designs. Go down the rabbit hole until bored. Return to survival world (sometimes having to restart a new one, due to major DLC/updates). Try out newly built designs in survival use, revise for robustness, ease of access/use, better user experience. This cycle alone can take 1-3 months, depending on my available gaming time. Then during the creative cycles, I also take breaks to do little one-off design challenges or objectives for myself (or I could find and join some of the Discord communities where they do design challenges too). This is where I've learned to use different scripts, try out cool ideas I see in other workshop blueprints or YT videos, and experiment with what the game lets me do. Some real-world equivalent objectives are constraints on design. It gets boring to build the umpteenth ultra-mega-super-dreadnought-of-edgelord-destruction, at least for me -- the sandbox lets anyone do whatever they want! But for me, I've found a lot of fun in deliberately setting requirements on myself, e.g.: I have a base ship of XYZ dimensions. It only has a 1x3x5 space where I managed to fit in a hangar bay, or whatever. Design an XYZ utility ship, fighter, rover, etc that fits into the space and the particular docking arrangement I was able to configure a connector. Designing a small grid fighter/combat drone that can pass through a 1x1 large grid block is one of many unique little challenges this can lead to. Or limit tonnage, due to thruster capacity. Or limit/effciently use PCU, for the sake of a smoother playing experience while still running multiple ships. Or other features or functions. This includes many fads or concepts that the community has seen, like PMW turrets and missiles (pre- and post-Warfare 2 and Automatons), vector thrust subgrid rotor flight, subgrid rotor wheel suspensions for serious rover offroading, meta flying gun bricks, underground bases, different kinds of welding/assembly setups, merge block double rotor ramps and pivoting ship parts, walking mechs, 0 friction wheel skimmer vehicles... And that's not even including mods. With mods, it's easy to add STUFF that takes up system resources and memory, but doesn't uniquely add that much to gameplay. I'm always asking myself how much each mod helps me to enjoy the game more. The Aerodynamic Physics mod is one I always keep loaded -- designing ships capable of atmospheric flight, especially with little to no up thrust and relying only on wings for lift, is a lot of fun challenge. There are some wing parts mods by Digi and Takeshi that are simpler in game engine terms, and also outright easier to build with. But the full package Aero Physics mod adds no blocks, only a new game mechanic that uses existing game blocks and assets. Same for the Water mod and its unique mechanics and gameplay opportunities, though I have played with that less. There are sooo many excellent mods, it's impossible to list them all. Modular Encounters Systems and the NPC faction mods can make for a much more combat-oriented PVE experience. Though by default the mod's spawn and path settings are geared to align with vanilla NPC space pirate behavior, keeping even the aggressive NPCs mostly passive. Editing the min/max distances for NPC spawning/pathing in the config files (3 files -- planetary cargo ships, space cargo ships, and planetary installations) can make the game much more active, putting the player on the defensive. Or using the wave spawners to make the game into a brutal combat wave survival mode.

@@Wyzmar Ha ha oops, I don't always see notifications. Yeah, I fell into MP play for stuff like Arma 3, but not for SE. For designs, I went through a long phase of building with mods, building flying meta gun bricks, etc. I realize most players prefer workshop designs that are 1) vanilla (+DLC at most), 2) cool, and a distant 3) effective. Heck, I also like finding cool vanilla designs on the workshop, then tailoring them to my own prefs. Honestly for me I usually do scenario type plays. I got my most common idea from arron from last stand gamers when him sage, and tazoo use to do survival series such as when their ship crashed on a planet and they turned it into a base. As they mined to get enough to build thrusters to right the wreck so it was even and not slanted. My recently play I used the preset map where you get the decent small space station in the astroid that has a second structure with a landing pad and large ship on it. I want to say it was the map launched with industrial. But I took that ship flew it near the planet and cut the ventreral thrusters and with the mod aerodynamics it randomly burns the ship so your not given a fully functional ship and things break as it's coming down. Then I try to build up to escape the planet and get back to the station.

We call these episodes periods of mental diarrhea. We get bored after a while. Our online time decreases over time. We disrupt the days. Then we meet again after six months or a year. i'm actually a player since the very early days where you could fly a ship and ram it into others, no resource gathering, no weapons, very bare bones. i played this game a lot in 2017 and 2018 especially with friends, but when they did the blueprint overhaul the dedicated server tool started having major issues to the point i got tired of hosting a dedicated server because of how unreliable it was. after that i played a few more times in single player, built some stuff, tried some mods and scripts, but then got reminded of the endless void of the game. back then single player had no life in the large area you played in, no enemies aside the very basic drones and the modded enemies were.. well.. they got old quick. last time i played this game had some major issues with the single player experience where there was nothing else to do when you ran out of creativity and multiplayer is where it's at because you will know that someone is out there in space and that there's actual risks and chances for combat but this isn't what the game should rely on so heavily IMO. that being said, i haven't played with the new AI blocks yet, IMO this was something i wished to have for years on end back when i played but had to do with scripts instead like PAM and Rdav's scripts, and also an inventory management script for the base which i forgot the name of, but these things began to be a necessity IMO as it improved the game a lot in terms of QOL, especially when playing alone.

Once i've built my base there's nothing to do, and it seems illogical to build ships i'm never going to use. I'm incapable of playing with self-made rules, so i need the game to give me a reason to do something, and it has to be a common objective that everyone is trying to reach, so it feels meaningful. This game needs servers with at least 100 players and actual PvE/PvP that is challenging, and a significant progression system that rewards players.

I am and always will be a 100% vanilla player. 6338 hours and going strong. I play on vanilla servers only, but I spend a lot of time in creative making my designs before I build them in survival. What keeps it fresh and exciting for me is having to rebuild my entire fleet with each new update and dlc, but what makes me most frustrated is the lack of pcu and tiny block limits in the Keen servers. I used to play on Embrace The Lag server, was vanilla, but it had the opposite problems. No block limits. I wish there was a good vanilla server, with the right world settings and maybe a lot more pcu. One of the most annoying settings was the in game scripts being disabled, but thanks to the new event controller I was able to make a scriptless wsad gravity drive and now I am stoked to put my new flag ship into a survival world, but unless I cheat, I do need some extra players in my faction to contribute some pcu to the build... So sadly the solo option just isn't that attractive in the keen servers, unless I stick to a modest potato and risk defeat by people with less moral standards. It is too easy to cheese the pcu. Once it's built in survival though, I'd like to try to play a roll as a weapon against offline raiders, people who cheese newbs, and people who litter grids.. Really my job is to keep peace, make it inviting to new players, as well as improve server performance by cleaning up lagy builds. Such a task is daunting with an immature player base sometimes, but when you make friends in here, they tend to stick around for years. :) I still have buddies from waaay back before they changed the skybox, or added armor skins... Players who respect the server, and share it with everyone. Not evil factions who raid newbs... The protectors of the newbs and gurus of the klang.. Also, why are klang drives banned in most servers? Lol I mean, rules can make a game more fun, but also too many rules can ruin a good time. I think the main thing is there are too many shoddy designs out there, but if there was more education on how to build a non dangerous klang drive, then it should be fair to allow it. I could have saved a lot of pcu with a clang drive, but now I have a massive gravity drive because the rules. Not a huge difference in the resulting acceleration, apart from performance in a p gravity, and a hit to server performance too..

I think there needs to be more emphasis on this subject of "try new things, there's a lot to do," like maybe a series of shorts, each one talking about an idea to try out. Like Challenges: Small Grid Only or gain reputation to become a Space Pirate. Scenarios: Escape From Mars etc; or mod packs: Splitsie's Assertive mods etc and, especially as you mentioned, definitely more joining servers with high population and seeing if there are any opened med bays and join them. I had the most fun joining random people's med bay. Only tip on that is, don't expect people to mine everything for you and all you do is use their resources, become a useful allie. Or open your own Med bay when you start, if you don't mind there's a very slim chance that someone is only there to be a griefer, you can build a public base yet have your creations away from base with a medbay for just you. Everyone doesn't want to do the first couple hours of starting survival, so if you're past that, no one is gonna really mess with your base and want to help.

I was the same way. I could make one hell of a base or station but when it came to ships or rovers it was toasters on wheels with windows or a cockpit. So I started using workshop creations and modifying them to fit what I need at the time so I would have to modify the outside and blend it in with my retrofit. Started out as taking a frigate and turning it into a freighter so adding a little extra, to cutting sections out and making new areas for special purposes. After a while I was starting to make my own creations from scratch. My favorite to modify was the mammoth modular cargo ship. Building new cargo mods for it to fit new purposes and that's what lead to me doing ground up. Keeping it within size that the main ship could pick it up still. Then to keep game play fresh I'll watch some of the KZread people and what scenario they do and see if I'll like it. Then I just now started a new job with same hours as my friends so I can start playing online with them again.

Dude for real. What do you want to explore in SE? It hase 4-5 planets and nothing realy on them. Except AI building. But to see them you dont need to leave earth. And for space its the same. Fly to the moon and back and you have seen everthing this game has to offer. In a simple brakedown SE is boring except building technics from that(if you ar not knowing for what you ar doing) is killing itself and half of the grid if not the complete grid. This is an normal playstyle if not modded/scenario or roleplayserver(both last one ar way to short to be entertaining on a long run) -Build base -build rover/aircraft for mining -rebuild and/or build a new grid for space flight -mine uran/platin -(importent part) bring it save home what is looking to vanilla a total pain im the ass bc of total weak thrusters if you dont what to fly 100 times up and down for a decend amount of ore what brings me again to the point of "mods ar requiert" -build a big ship capital/frigatt/dreahtnougth you name it -live mostly in space pc uran/platin only there and ar constand needed. -kill some pirats Boom all done. Yeah you can put thousens of hours of work in trying new build styles but under the line all the same. And this is the bigges problem SE is faceing and why it losea me after 1.8k hours of play time Again and again after a return. No tasks ....ok sure the lightly job from some stations. But still No real tasks. Compare it wiht as exception empyrion galaktig survival. It has a hell load more entertaining even a vanilla story. And some side quests for 6 fraction(not just simply sample this item or got that grid killed. They have even over 500 solar systems vy now each wiht at least 4-5 planets and max up to 12-15. Space cant keep up to this. Not until (and here is the clue on that) that rumors about SE2 ar true and the game will be a hell more stabel than this shit sry that i have to call it that but i was owning engouth server(vanilla and moddet) to know that this game is a dying animal

Its just a game that doesnt work, there is no point in doing anything. You get recourses to build machines to get more recourses, thats literally it. Making a ship that does anything other than collect recourses is useless, so what is the point of collecting them in the first place. If it was more combat focused and actually had _reasons_ to make unique ships itd be great but it its current state you spend hours building a ship that does nothing. I love building ships, its why I only play creative mode, but it isnt nearly as rewarding as building things in other games. I just wish it had more to do and more quality of life features to make building more intuitive, like a ship builder that lets you build them in a menu rather than having to float around in a clunky jetpack to build. You could say the combat comes into play when playing multiplayer but the game is so mod-dependent (like gmod or starbound) that the community is stretched too thin to actually make that matter, just live far away from the other 5 players lmao.

It is Space Engineers not Space Themepark. It is a sandbox game, you make the reasons/quests and plan the missions. I wouldn't really want it any other way personally. I make a whole line of ships and drill rigs etc in creative with some theme in mind and make it happen in survival, rinse and repeat. KSP career or science mode if you haven't played it sounds more up your alley as far as progression and goals but there isn't any combat.

My favorite thing to do is lone survivor, scout out all the minerals to get what i need and drop gps locations should i need more later, then create 2 ships, 1 is the printer, and the other is the projector ship, all you do is load a blueprint and let the welders do the work for you, this is the best way to build ships so be sure to design in creative for the most part and make blueprints of them for use in survival. It is such a nice feeling to be able to load a blueprint in survival and print a brand new ship in minutes, no questions asked.
