Hats off for the presentation style with simple and cute smile....................
You can exchange the fork from left hand to right hand in American style.
I hold the knife on my left, my fork on the right and i don't change anything while i am eating. Fork on the right feels natural to me and i have no problem to cut with the left at all.
This was by far the best video I've found on how to use fork and knife properly. I'm from the USA and lived in Europe for a year where they only use fork and knife. I was confused so many times, I would try to examine my friends hands when they ate to see how it was done but couldn't perfectly imitate. But with your video I sat down to eat a meal using your rules and it was effortless! I was like " finally someone answered my question!!" I didn't know whether to put my fork in left or right hand lol Thank you!!

You are a grown woman and you need someone to tell you how to use a fork? Are you serious? Don't make more of it than it is. You learn to eat at your parents table... Not hers. These are not table manners. What she is teaching is a performance, an exhibition, a contrived spectacle.

@@liveoakgap7489 How insensitive. You do realise that etiquette and the use of cutlery vary depending on the country? They clearly stated that they are from the US, and not from England.

THE REASON WHY YOU PLACE FORK AND KNIFE CROSSED IN THE MIDDLE IS SO IT MEANS YOU HAVEN'T FINISHED YOUR MEAL. IF YOU ARE DONE, THEN YOU PUT BOTH FORK AND KNIFE TOGETHER AT ANGLE AS IF IT WAS 20 PAST 4 ON THE CLOCK. THOSE TWO WAYS ARE MESSAGES FOR THE WAITERS SO THEY KNOW IF THEY CAN TAKE YOR PLATE OR NOT.

Well, there are two styles, one of which is the American style. In American style you can switch the fork to your active hand to take the food in your mouth.

But yes, do not switch at the same time. Put the knife away from you on the plate and switch the fork. Once you’ve eaten switch the hand back. It’s clumsy really.

Sorry but the American way is properly impracticle. This certainly explains why Americans struggle so much to eat pizzas or burgers with cutlery. Always keeping forks on the weak hand is far easier.

Holding fork only on left is continental and in American way, it is allowed to put the knife down on top of the plate to transfer fork to right hand.

This was very helpful!!! Thank you for the addition tip on crossing the fork and knife if you have to put your utensils down!
@zararoyce319

Yeah that is a great tip, because otherwise you can come back to the table and your item is gone because they will assume you are done, it could also be assumed that you discreetly didn’t care for that particular dish so that’s a discreet way to just get out of having to eat it without any awkward fuss, so if you step away from the table without that indicator your item will probably be gone when you come back

It’s incorrect. Don’t do it the way she has demonstrated. You place the fork with the tines facing down if you haven’t finished your meal. You place with tines facing up and your knife and fork together side by side when you’ve finished your meal.
Thank you. This morning I had a very messy omelet in a restaurant, it kept breaking apart. How could I manage. (I kept pushing items onto the fork with the knife)

Excellent explanation indeed. But as an African man, I find it hard to understand why people should 'struggle' to EAT. My English friend says "it's table manners". I rest my case!
So what it’s rice I’m using it to eat won’t the particles be poured on grounds?
Thnk
Please teach us how to eat rice with fork.

In some countries on this beautiful planet 🌎, people don't eat with their hands, they only use fork and knife only, or spoon to eat. Learning about different cultures, different ideas about the different foods is making life on earth so interesting and beautiful.

Eat by hand it's good

This is the continental way of eating and when there please follow their etiquette. In the 🇺🇸, changing hands is accepted, proper...depending on your host. Great video. The continental way is more cohesive.

Well said Caroline. The presenter doesn't seem to accept the U.S. method as correct for us. She did, however, give a good example of the Continental method. That was one helluva big piece of omelette she cut off, glad I didn't get to see her fit it into her mouth.

Proper etiquette does not mean you have to use your utensils in an uncommon way. Proper etiquette means you respect people. I can't imagine a host so rude and Ill bred as to correct someone's table manners. ..
Plz tell how to drink water too😃
For me left handed I hold the fork on my right hand side and the knife on my left hand side ,
I know all these, coz of my fauji background..., but yes majority of people don't know, they shud watch it carefully, very rightly explained by Dipika. 👍

Fine. How do Europeans eat rice?
The knife isn't the "active utensil" in eating. The fork is. Keep the knife in your left hand and eat with your right hand... Assuming you are right handed.
@johnbusher6375
2 жыл бұрын
I think that most right handed people have better control and strength with the knife in the right hand. Accepted etiquette would call for switching knife and fork. This presenter gives a good example of the continental method. IMO the way one holds the fork is more important.
🇺🇸 use fork in left & knife in right hand just to cut and then switch fork to right hand to eat with knife resting on plate…
