i don't like keeping both hands under the tableau while eating with hand... it suggests something funny going on underneath

Ash Joseph one has two options... one to keep your hands on the table with only wrists on the table. which is a little difficult.. other is in your lap... and It is while chewing food and not while eating as you have said... it seems your imagination is very fertile. .use it constructively...
use your right hand to hav Indian food. that's all

Senthil what happens to people who are South paw? Nothing to do with a South Indian though...hahah. South paw means left handed.If your master hand is left, you have to do the cut and lift function using the left hand...

@captbjsingh367

Sham, peeling of a boiled egg has to be done with your fingers.The egg shell can be kept in the side plate, there is no need for a separate plate.

Ash Joseph I have shown two methods of eating a parontha.. one cut and lift function and the other support function... you must be used to the popular method of eating with out any cutlery... that is fine too... that you already know... why not learn other methods too... I wonder if you have travelled abroad... these techniques would fall handy... you have a choice in any case...
Indians are used to eating food with their right hand. So, even when using fork and knife, you don't have to use the left hand to take food to your mouth. Just like American and continental way, it is good to teach Indian etiquette

When we talk of Indian traditional methods of eating,then we do not use cutlery, strictly speaking. In most cultures right hand is considered auspicious, but that is unfortunate. There are so many people who are South paw or left handed. We possibly can not leave them out from the main stream. Therefore, the emphasis should be on the use of the Master hand rather than get into the controversy of left or right.
why should the fork and knife are placed cross (like X) any explaination
@captbjsingh367

There is a silent service code that indicates to the serving staff that you are now ready to be served. Plus the cross placement while eating makes it convenient for the diner to hold knife or spoon with the master hand and fork for support function with the non master hand.

It is not about comfort. Sometimes you attend some formal meetings or foreign meetings where you cannot eat with hands. So it is important to learn how to eat with cutlery

Dear Ankush, Fine dining is an experience and not meant only for filling in the stomach as soon as possible. If that is the need, then there are a lot of other options, like fast food or you may like to roll a parontha with some sabzi and hold it in your hand and eat it while on the move.
