For detailed cuts, like pipe slots, toilet circle, etc. is to just use a big pair of pliers and nibble away at it. No dust, no chance of breaking the board, and perfect fine detail. Nibble straight lines along the edge or work your way out from the center. Full control, no hazardous dust flying everywhere. Silica will cause lung disease. PPE minimum for silica is N95, not your standard dust mask.

You actually snapped the board on the opposite side the manufacturer recommends. Their video advises you to lift the board in the direction of the cut side versus folding it away from the cut side as in your video. I guess it worked anyway though...

Actually was looking at my tile saw and thought hmm, and that's why I'm here. Going to give it a try. I've been using a table saw for over 40 years. Only use a push stick when there is less than inch and half between blade and fence. Sometimes it's easier to use a tool you already have than go out and buy a tool you are only going to use for one project. If you are planning to use a skill saw or table saw wear a mask and plan on discarding the blade, maybe more than once depending on how much cutting you are going to do.

Use a push stick on the table saw, to get that small piece clear of the blade. I've seen the blade catch it, and come out at 100mph, catching you right in the gonads.

Do not do the hammer method with 1/2” . You will risk damage to your board and it would be a shame if you had to purchase another board and make extra unnecessary joints due to breaking and having to use extra pieces. The board is made of fibers and and cement and corners will break off easily. Cut it outside or use a shop vac and mask for clean cuts. I prefer denshield for walls. it’s drywall that’s waterproofed on one side and cuts easily

I wouldn't follow the tips from this guy unless I was desiring to lose some fingers or even a hand. Holding work with one hand while holding the tool and trying to manipulate the cut while fighting with the cord in the way is one dangerous situation. Almost like playing with a live grenade. There is a reason someone invented HoldDowns, clamps and vises. Use 'em!!!

Cutting a silica based board like Hardiebacker with a saw produces dangerous silica dust (the main culprit in Black Lung.) Here's a warning from the James Hardie company: • NEVER use high-speed power tools (e.g.saws,grinders,etc.) to cut JamesHardie® products indoors as they may generate excessive silica dust. • NEVER dry sweep-Use wet suppression methods or HEPA vacuum for clean-up. • To further limit respirable silica exposures, wear a properly-fitted, NIOSH-approved dust mask or respirator (e.g. N-95) in accordance with applicable government regulations and manufacturer instructions.

@@karozans Give your head a shake. Silica dust can be very dangerous if breathed day in, day out for years. We're talking about workplace exposures, not one-time exposure. It happened to a friend of mine, and the lung damage done is irreversible.
