This is the manufacturer recommended way to cut holes in Hardi Board concrete backer board. There are of course other ways, but manufacturer recommendations are usually there for a reason.

The "Proper" way.....or the "Longest possible method known to man" way? LMAO
You can use a grinder with a sponge. But they cannot recommend that method.

I have seen others use grinders/ hole saws. Likely much faster and if you are doing this for a living. But, for the DIY homeowner who may cut one or two of these holes in their lifetime, this is a much less dusty way with a couple simple tools, and manufacturer recommended.

What if the lap siding has chip board behind it?
Now do it with 1/2 board lol. 1/4 is like cardboard....
