If you’ve got a faded pair of jeans that you want to revive, why not dye them? I’m using Black Dylon Permanent Dye for one pair and Denim Blue Rit All-Purpose Dye for another pair. You can use either type of dye for both denim blue and black. You can also try different colors for unique looks.

    Jeans that were originally dark indigo blue, typically have the best results with black dye if you want to restore the original color.

  • @SeanOHanlon

    Just use Dylon. It doesn't need hot water to activate because it's a fiber reactive dye, meaning that it bonds permanently to the cellulose in the cotton. It also doesn't fade over time like Rit does.

    Question. I bought a pair of jeans online. In the pic they looked light blue but actually they're like an auqua or greenish color. The jeans fit nicely so I want to keep them and I was thinking I'll just dye them. Question is, will blue dye hide the original color or should I use black?

  • @onlinefabricstore

    @onlinefabricstore

    5 жыл бұрын

    Either would work. Blue dye will make them look more like regular blue jeans. Black dye will make them darker. It all depends on the look you are going for.

    I have three pair of jeans to dye. Do I need a separate pot of dye for each pair, or can I dye all three in the same pot of dye?

  • @onlinefabricstore

    @onlinefabricstore

    4 жыл бұрын

    If your pot is large enough for all three pairs to move around freely in the water you could do it at the same time. But its important that the jeans have plenty of room to move around, so you may want to do two rounds.

    You would not be able to dye jeans a lighter color. And unfortunately color remover does not work on indigo dye. You could always try, but I would be weary of it working.

    You can do them at the same time! just make sure that you have enough dye in your dye bath. 1 bottle = 2 lbs of fabric if you are using liquid dye. or 1 box = 1 lb. of fabric if you are using powder dye.

  • @onlinefabricstore

    @onlinefabricstore

    2 жыл бұрын

    I see that you had asked this on another video, so I am going to copy that response here, best of luck with your project! I can't guarantee it would not, because it depends on the material the thread is made of. Usually thread is made from polyester, so the regular all purpose dye would not dye it. But if it is made of cotton it would. Sorry I can not add more clarity. Try it out in a spot that isn't so visible first before dying the whole garment.

  • @onlinefabricstore

    @onlinefabricstore

    It should, but is it acid washed? The acid washing will damage the fibers, and might make the dye not stick to certain parts (or stick to parts more than others) If it is just plain denim, you should be fine. But the acid washing could give you a funky look if that's what you're talking about.

    Your best bet would be to remove the patch and sew it back in when you are done dying. Unfortunately, there would be no way to stop the dye from affecting the patch in the dye bath.

    Question I get uneven color in knee area, I did a second try still the same uneven section what could be the cause of this?

  • @sunshinesmiles5386

    @sunshinesmiles5386

    Жыл бұрын

    If your white threads in the denim fabric are polyester, they probably won't take to the dye as well. Many people wear their knees out faster than the rest of the pants, meaning more white threads are exposed --> uneven coloring.

    This video is demonstrating how to dye jeans with 2 different kinds of dye, Rit and Dylon. The color doesn't matter, you can use blue, black, or any other color with either dye. You use the fixative with Rit (blue in this video) and not with Dylon because it already has the fixative in it. One dye isn't better than the other.
