HOW TO DRAW - Vanishing Point Perspective

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

How To Draw Objects Vanishing into the distance using one point perspective. Foreshortening and perspective for a row of objects vanishing into the distance can be achieved using some simple basic guide lines, a horizon line and a ruler. But this tutorial will also focus on the geometry and understanding behind measuring the distance between regular objects as they diminish.

For anyone who's interested in looking into more of the technical perspective stuff: The "view point" is the place you the viewer would be standing at if you were inside the scene. It is called a *station point* . The *horizon line* is the line your eyes are at. The line Mikey drew, where the top down view changes into the perspective view, is called an *image/picture plane* . The process of turning the top down view into perspective view is called *projection* . The line on which the buildings stand on is called the *ground line* . An object's edge that is closest to the viewer, touching the ground line, can be used to determine the object's height more accurately, but it's hard to explain how without drawing it :) The same method works with 2 points perspective: The vanishing points are positioned on the horizon line for each object (if objects are parallel they can share vanishing points) by drawing lines from the station point, to the horizon line, that are parallel to the object's edges in the top down view. Where those lines meet the horizon line, those will be your vanishing points. 2 points perspective is a misleading term. You will have as many vanishing lines as your object has planes (that don't face you head on). All parallel lines that are not on a plane facing the viewer directly (perpendicular) must meet on the horizon, at a vanishing point. So a hexagonal building, will have 3 faces showing with 2, or 3, vanishing points, depending on the angle you observe it from. In other art spheres, the station point is where the viewer is supposed to stand to experience a piece of art. The more you know!

I just started drawing and my mind is blowed up by this trick. Can’t wait to see the 2 or 3 point perspective, but it’s getting late and I should probably sleep. Thank you for giving all your advice for free and I will watch a lot of tutorials. I came here to learn how to draw anime characters, but I’m here starting from point zero. It will surely be a fun run!

@@NymPLUS Discovering your own method as a student is pointless without a solid grasp of fundamentals, which is often what students look to their teachers for. If you can't understand and provide that while someone on KZread can, then you are a bad teacher.

If anyone is confused, don't worry, he made a mistake, you should search for "perspective projection" to learn the way to do this properly. The error he made isn't too bad, but it's that the picture plane doesn't intersect the ground line (it could be said that another mistake is that he drew two ground lines, when it should only be one). The reason it still looks good is because the shapes are after translation from their original position. In the perspective view the first buildings are NOT touching the ground line (it can be seen because the actual ground line is the extra ground line he drew, that's why at that line the diagonals become straight vertical lines), but in the top view, in the picture plane the buildings ARE touching the ground line. Because of this translation, the buildings don't need to be aligned in the perspective and top views, and because of this, maybe we could say this is not an error, but an imprecise way of doing it, which still works despite being imprecise. The precise way of doing it requires that the ground line is the same in the perspective and top views.

Those aren't that hard really. You use the top down view to position vanishing points on the horizon (assuming your object needs them), and you follow the regular rules of all parallel lines on a plane go in the direction of the corresponding vanishing point. Wait, I'm not sure if you were kidding or not. Because people mostly stay with 1,2, and 3, point perspectives, very few people go beyond, to the point that some people think that's not even a thing!
