How to Draw Using Dots (Stippling Tutorial) - for Beginners
Stippling is a really fun, relaxing way of creating value, and this video shows you how. Stippling is a way of drawing using only dots, and after taking you through the absolute basics, I show you how I shade a sphere.

I just recently got introduced to crosshatching and stippling but you just changed my entire opinion on stippling. I used to think it was so complicated until I saw your video! You put everything so simply to the point where you can just get used to it instantaneously. Thank you so much for making this video. I respect all your effort.

I'm glad to hear it! I love making stippled portraits and I hope you do too.
This is amazing work, it is more helpful to learn if you do the video more with normal speed, and your working finger is covering it, so if you put your camera on 70- 80° to the left, it would be more visible. The light, the quality of the video is perfect. (can you do a video with thicker pen like 1.5-3 mm) thank you!
When making each point, do we use a drawing pen of a different size? Or do all points use the same drawing pen size?
Wow

I have to do this for art homework. I’m very impatient and get very bored very easily, I’m about half way done and it’s Wednesday and it’s due next week Monday I just don’t have the motivation :/ there must be a faster easier way
@MsCoopersArtClass

Stippling definitely takes some time. I often take breaks and adjust my posture every once in a while to make it easier on myself. If your piece is really really big, sometimes you can hold some pens together with a rubber band to make more dots, but only if it's a big piece. Or you can just look at only one section at a time to feel like you're moving faster. Either way, you have some time and I'm glad you're looking up tutorials to help. You've got this, Mia!

I want to make a realistic drawing using the grid system. Any tip to avoid the drawing having little squares? It seem the dry ink might different from each square. ❓
@MsCoopersArtClass
2 жыл бұрын
If I'm understanding you correctly, I think the best way to do this is to slowly erase your grid as you go so instead of working up to a line, you can spill over into the next section. That often helps me to avoid getting strange boxes and lines. I hope that helps!

What is the best type of pen or pencil for stippling?
@MsCoopersArtClass
3 жыл бұрын
I like to use felt-tip pens for stippling. They make consistent dots and come in a lot of sizes. My favorites right now are Pigma Microns. If you're going to use pencil, I recommend something dark, like a 6B or an ebony pencil.
I have a question? 🙋♂️ I practice stippling with pencils ✏️ If want to make a area darker, which one should I prioritize? Fill the blank space with dots or add dots on previously added dots?
@MsCoopersArtClass

It is really up to you. I prefer to fill the blank spaces with dots because I think it usually looks neater in the end. Thanks for leaving a question!
