HOW TO DRAW - Shading Light & Shadow
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
How to draw shadows, & how to shade 3D objects to give them surface texture and casting shadows from a light source. This video covers how to shade with a shading technique, as well as teaching basic light theory and a beginner lesson on reflected light sources on an object too. This is the 3rd video in the Basic beginner How To Draw series so that all the ground work is covered if you are new to art, drawing and illustration. This tutorial will get basic shading and shadows out the way!

Hi Mikey , just found your channel and it's just what I'm looking for. I haven't drawn for 30 years now (I'm 61) because of a recent spinal injury and awaiting an operation I decided to start again. Oh btw, I wasn't that good 30 years ago lol. Your tutorials are so easy but precise and I absolutely love the real time ones. Amazing work and I look forward to drawing along with you. I have subscribed and shared. Keep on keeping on.

Best of luck with your drawings!
Thank you. I'm new at drawing & couldn't grasp the concept of LIGHT & Shadow. Your tutorial did the trick for me.
You are the first person who explained cast shadow and now I do it well every time. Thank you.
the circles are by far the hardest to draw and the hardest to shade. It is really hard to move the pencil slow enough to shade the inside properly. At least for me.

I've been learning sketch for months now, and I must say; You sir, are absolutely correct. THAT 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 even 𝒓𝒆𝒎𝒐𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒚 close to spheres are absolutely INFURIATING to draw.
This was a really useful video! Helped me to make one of my very first drawings. The friendly voice and music really added to how cool this was, surprisingly!
Thank you for this tutorrrrriaaaalllll!! I love your videos as always, I was actually feeling really discouraged in my drawing recently, but I thought, "well I can draw a cube and shade it in" and that kind of kick-started a dry streak for me, so, thank you! Take care Mikey c:
This is an excellent tutorial. I am hoping that you will continue to do more in this series. Thank you!
Thank you so much for sharing your work, Mikey. Love the way you use an inexpensive pencil to draw almost everything. No doubt, I couldn't stop myself from noticing those Copic markers at the end but then I reminded myself, "that they only came after a long toil" with the inexpensive pencil. Guess I've learned two lessons with just one video :-) thanks.
BTW guys, something I just learned. It might not be much, but letting adds run for at least 30 seconds or until done if shorter apparently pays the creator, albeit very little. Gonna try to let adds run at least that long going forward.

So it’s just imagining and then filling in everything. :) Why don’t they just say it like this at school. BTW mikey this is really helping :). And like sevie said your voice and the music is just so relaxing and that is probably the thing that helps me the most by not worrying about the fact that it won’t be good. (And of course the fact that you say that it’s just learning and doing it over and over again).
as always is incredible tutorial, Thanks Mikey :)
Thank you for another great guide upload, Thumbs up Mikey!
aww the music that is always so awesome that u should leave the soundtracks used in da description box and the beginning of the tutorial was sooooo cute and the rest was just like an asmr!
Slipping in that dark humor. I love it

O sweet merciful buddah! Thanks Mikey this was my BIGGEST weakness in art, I've been struggling to figure it out and now I feel like my brains been unlocked! 18 years of not shading properly! I'm such a scrub! I love you Mikey ; w;

Copy+paste time! ^^ Hey, I'm fairly new subscriber, but what I've browsed your videos, I haven't found a video where you talk much about skin. What I mean, it could be quite nice to have a tutorial or such talking and drawing details of skin, like scars, freckles, moles and wrinkles. Your work looks beautiful and it's quite a joy to drink morning tea and watch you work with a piece, without any unnecessary over energetic action happening the same time. :3 Snowy morning from Finland!

Hi! Nice light&shadow Tutorial! I asked in the related video, but noone answered, is the parblo giveaway still going?
where do I find the frist video I really want to learn to darw.
Hey I really like these videos that you make but I would really like to make the crammed versions of the rest of the game of thrones series they are really fun to watch
I have to watch this again. I got lost on why the shadow of the cube was a different shape.
What pencil are you using?
how did we go from drawing squares and triangles to shadows and lighting
My last challenging process, light and shade and shadowing 😃 Sir do you have lessons about loose sketching and line quality? On your sketches you can separate the construction lines with the outlines and details. I'm figuring and remembering my line quality. 😁👍🍩☕🎱😃
This gotta be the hardest for me... yet.
Can I also use this shade in anime drawing?
mikey: *draws perfect lines from nowhere* me: ahaha wow i totally get it now… ;-;
At 4:18 if you turn the paper clock wise🔃 it looks like a paw or a baby's hands (with more detail it can become it😁)
chibi mikey is too cute.

I am now empowered and not scared of shading. But I didn't understand the shape of the cubes shadow. I don't understand how that shape was made
Hello, I do not understand the *cube drop shadow process.* Could you explain it a bit more please? I'm lost and desperately need clarification. Thanks in advance!!
Next lesson: ray tracing! :D
I need a tutorial for cast shadows with sun behind me. Such as, standing in desert early morn looking west. Everything so far is with looking AT the sun. I don't think there would be vanishing points for the sun. Help me out, I'm a 80 y.o. oil painter with this need real soon!
Idk how we’re supposed to follow the video without being able to draw a perfect square

Speaking of shadows, how about trying our art light to sketch at night?
Pliiiiz... For us young guyz the music is a sleep dosage, look 4 sth more funky.... Buh u good mahn
You are the best painter👌 I know، thank you for simplifying your drawing. one more thing Please can you draw us (katakuri) from one piece like your one piece drawing vedios. As much as possible 😊
