Have you ever spent hours drawing a flower only to realize after you're done that it's crooked and not even close to where you want it on the page?
This drawing approach can help you easily plan out your entire drawing in just a few short minutes, so you know everything's in the right place, is the right size and if something's off, you can easily fix it before you commit hours to drawing all the intricate details.
Open your sketchbook and get ready to draw some simple shapes like circles, triangles, and ovals, but don't be afraid to morph them to your advantage as well!
If you have any additional ideas or insights to share with the community, please leave them in the comment section. We'd love to hear it :) Thank you!!

✏️ TOOLS I USED
- 0.5mm Dollarstore Mechanical Pencil (Studio brand)
- 0.5mm 4B lead (I recommend HB lead for sketching. Reason I used 4B was so my lines would be darker for better viewing experience): amzn.to/2EpZx56
- Prismacolor Kneaded Eraser: amzn.to/2IRrYtR

Thank you for teaching me how to draw. I mean this in a very positive manner, you have made me bored, confident and vex that I could not draw before and that now that I can draw, all I have left in life is boring practice and the few drawings of mine I consider ok. I really mean Thank you. 2 art schools and you were the one that taught me in one video. You even did what Proko and Jazza couldn't teach me.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I spent many years in mechanical engineering/design. It was hard to get away from drawing an image without it looking "mechanical". Your videos have helped me start to draw images that look more natural (well as natural as I can make them at this point). 😀

Good advice, but, honestly, I could never draw the rose like that. Using basic shapes is a very good thing MOST of the time, but even when I was a pure beginner I sometimes had to ignore this advice. The rose is a perfect example. From that angle, it's such a simple drawing that I don't think it needs broken down. I certainly didn't break such simple drawing down into several basic shapes. Mor would I have drawn the full ellipse for the partially hidden petals on the first flower. I could see where they stuck out, see how wide they were compared to the petals on both sides, and see the angle they went under the other petals. They're the easiest part of the flower to draw properly. The front petals are a perfect guide for drawing the back petals. Everything else you did, yes, I would have broken them down into basic shapes. I can't say I ever do that now, except in my mind, which works very well after fifty years of drawing. I'm not sure when I stopped putting basic shapes on paper to use as guides. A lot of years ago. Twenty-five or thirty. Somewhere in there. But as a beginner, putting down shapes on paper was a huge help, even if I didn't do it for drawings that I saw as simple. We each have our own ways, and maybe more important, we each see things in our own way. What seems simple to one is seen as complicated to another. Even now I often encounter drawing where the artist says it's simple, and my first thought is, "Not for me, it isn't". I often encounter the opposite, as well. Like your rose. Anyway, you're offering excellent advice. I just want beginners to know that sometimes you have to follow your instincts, have to do things your own way because no one else knows your strengths and weaknesses, what you do well, and what you have trouble drawing. Even after fifty years, I still have areas that give me severe trouble. Some of them are odd. I can draw a perfect horse, but I just can't draw a mule very well at all. My mules just look like horses with big ears, and that is not how a real mule looks. Yes, laughter is appropriate.
