Sorry…senior moment! I started sketching and painting a few years ago and have turned out some OK bits and pieces. When I first encountered your tutorials, I thought I would never be able to do anything like what you do. I have managed to sketch and paint most of these examples, even the sweet peas! I can’t thank you enough. You are an absolute inspiration to those of us who have little talent but really wish we had more.

Peony flowers are my go to for any art work that I add flowers to, normally it's portraits of my own pets that I like to add roses and peonies.

You're the watercolor whisperer! Talking us through our art therapy... Seriously this is such a great way to approach a composition by laying out basic shapes until you have something you like and then going in with the details after you're satisfied. Excellent tutorial!!!! 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩

Oh gosh, you are just the sweetest :)
Parts of the stamen: long skinny part is the filament, and the oval at the end is the anther. Within the anther is the pollen sacs. The stamen is the male reproductive part of the flower. I love this video. I always say I can paint better than I sketch; however, maybe I really can sketch!
@KristyRice

Ahhh perfect! Now I just need to remember those parts, lol! And yes you can sketch!!
I use to make cards by turning older cards into a stencil Shading the back side with pencil and then going over with pen and colors. Now I am working on furniture, and I believe I can paint on my peices as opposed to the price of transfers. Brushing up on my techniques. This is an awesome teaching source. Thanks.
I wanted to learn to watercolor, so my husband bought me the supplies for my birthday. Then I felt intimidated by the process. I'm so glad I found you. You make it look like fun and not a demanding, exacting art. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I can hardly wait to get started with my new hobby!

You are so magical! I am learning so much. I personally LOVE adding the detail...even though sometimes it can be intimidating, it's when the blob becomes the actual THING and it's really satisfying to see the transformation. This is a wonderful video breaking down a more detailed view of these flowers--but I also love watching you paint and seeing you balance detail with whimsy and FUN.

Thank you Kristy. Another great, helpful video. My problem with sketching is that I can never get the proper angle. I’m not sketching along with this video but I’m going to my art room and watch this again and follow along. Hopefully with your great instruction, I’ll improve!

OMG, some days I love the algorithm gods … I just discovered your channel & love it ! Much needed inspiration… thanks!
Cone flower is my fav. Like all flowers really.
Omg! Omg! I did it!! I drew the flowers and they came out good!!! I can’t believe it! Just to give you a clue I’m over 40 and have always wanted to draw and paint but every time I tried it wasn’t good. I’m so proud right now and I’m grateful to you for teaching the way you do💜💜 I haven’t painted them yet because my only pen is from dollar tree so I’m letting it dry over night to be safe but I’m so happy right now 🥰🥰
Seems I can paint w a brush (names & cursive writing) better than if I pick up a pencil & end up with unrecognizable anything but still not giving up but reason why love your water color books!
I do love those blue green dog woods!
I like the dogwoods best and the brown on the leaf of the anemone.
Since I don’t see it in the comments yet, the dots at the ends of the stamens are the anthers that open to release pollen. Love this breakdown of shapes!
I have avoided drawing flowers for ages because I was scared but this tutorial really helped me to get those shapes!
I have spent almost three hours hunyting you Pantheon into. I love watching you creat!

Love this! The triangle tip is great! Heads up on Dogwood- it only has 4 petals. The Dogwood represents a cross & was the tree used for the crucifixion of Christ. After the crucifixion God stated the Dogwood would never be a large tree to be used for crucifixion- hence it's a petite tree.

Ahh love this Dogwood story!! My Dogwood-like flower is pure imagination!! Love love knowing this!
perspective and proportion I find difficult. Many art teachers teach it, but go very fast in explanation and then assume the student instantly: a. gets it, and b. can apply the understanding to every piece of art. I wish there was an entire video demonstrating perspective over and over in various painting scenes: landscapes, street scenes, flowers up close, gardens at mid-range, etc.
You are an excellent teacher! Awesome attention to detail. I truly enjoy listening and watching your videos. Your passionate, with a true sincere desire to help viewers become better artists. I've watched other videos to help me with flowers, but this video by far has improved my flower sketches than all the other videos put together. Thank you!!!🎉🎉🎉

Coneflower is my favourite, of the ones you drew.
Well no wonder I could never paint a peony or Daisy. I never realized the petals go in different directions around the center. I was so, so , so frustrated but now am so encouraged to run to my paper and watercolor paints. Awesome. Thank you.

In another video I stated that you should put the words Beginner and /or easy in your thumbnail. I forgot to say that those words should be the first word in the title of your video. Just trying to be helpful. It's also helpful to be able to see the reference photo while you're demonstrating. Or you could start beginner classes. I don't see many watercolor tutorials that address the beginner. Because it's mostly beginners who watch. I would love to do a watercolor classes from the very beginning , step by step.

I ordered your brushes. Can't wait until they come!
I think the most important thing you've said up to this point of this video, (this is the first encounter I've had with your channel), is that "your sketch isn't set in stone". I want to call out to the individuals that may have winced at that comment, because most younger/beginner artists are in a hurry to become more confident in their art, which is why they draw so hard. It's why most people give up or say "I can't draw", because they see artists that have poured the energy into their shape studies. I, personally, feel like more people would be more comfortable with making a more sincere attempt at this kind of thing (doing a rough shape sketch and adding detail in pen) if they weren't trying to jump straight to being at the same level of study as someone who's been doing it for thirty years. Older artists should probably not glorify constantly criticizing art.. everyone is capable of pointing out flaws, successful artists learn to accept "flaws" in their own right as an accent to the "perfect" parts of a piece. All in all, I really like your energy throughout this video. It's a really good tutorial. Only complaint being that the consistent reminding that you have other videos feels like I'm getting homework, which discourages me.

Hi Kristy, "me again" ; } I never knew I could draw let alone do watercolor until I tried. If there is one good thing that came from being stuck at home for the last few years its KZread tutorials, I will be forever grateful to you, Shayda Campbell, Ellen Crimini Trent, etc. for teaching basic shapes and telling us to go for it, really, what's the worst thing that can happen? Thanks a million times for your videos. I send handmade watercolor cards to family, friends and people from my church and they are always happy to get something from the heart. Blessings. Patti O.

Love the Anemone. But just like I can't pick a favorite color, the same with flowers and most everything in nature...
So beautiful and lovely tutorial.
You've just asked what my concerns while watching are. And I just realized I had one! I think I'm pretty détail oriented, I can draw one petal by itself fine I think. But it's how the shapes of each element relate to each other - how the whole works together that stumps me.... In flowers and other things.

Oh I appreciate this so much!! I’m so glad this is helpful to you!!
Since watching your video I’ve been pondering about buying a fine liner pen and looked for a refillable one (cus this missus here doesn’t like throwing too much stuff in the garbage bin 😅) soooo expensive and remembered I had a glass dip pen and ink vials. And it’s pretty awesome for line art with Watercolor actually! Now I’m thinking maybe it could work by rolling the pen tip in the watercolor puddles… 🤔 And it’s sooooooo pretty to look at and a joy to hold, win win! Mine is made in France and a gift from my mother years.. I mean YEARS ago. And it’s finally put to good use thanks to your inspiration. Edit: it works WONDERS with watercolor… what in the world… wow!
