Thank you for this video - I have been experimenting with the idea of making wider "inkle bands" on the rigid heddle loom - this helps a lot.

Thanks for this new video. It's easily the best one out there on this technique. Very clear. You've done it again, Joyce!

Thank you very much for this precious explanation. I followed Laverne Waddington's techniques for the Andean backstrap loom weaving and for the warp-faced double weave she uses the inter mesh technique. But I used your technique which works very well on the backstrap loom, needing only one heddle stick and being very intuitive for the creation of the design. I would like to ask you please if there is somehow the possibility to insert only one strip with this technique in a simple weaving. Thank you so much for this wonderful lesson!

Maybe you could use a warp with fibers twice as thick for the double area so a round trip for the whole shuttle fabric matches the heights. I don't have other ideas. Anyway thank you, thank you very much ❤️

Neat video! Thanks. Is it too late to increase the volume of the video? I know nothing about that sort of technicality.

Thank you. Yes, it's too late, but It helps to listen with headphones. My problem is lack of very good equipment. I tried to get my mic louder, but couldn't. Hence the text within the video so you don't lose any information. Consider it "closed captioned". :)

Yeah, duh! Good idea. Also, I'm very new to weaving. Is supplemental warp basically the same thing as band weaving (in terms of different sheds being made)?

  • @rigidheddleweaving

Welcome to the wonderful world of weaving! Supplemental warp can be used with any weave structure and any width of cloth, it doesn't matter the number of sheds being made. It's simply extra warp threads. Band weaving is generally a narrow cloth, which can be created using any weave structure, although, usually it's warp faced with plain weave as the structure (also known as "inkle"). As a beginner, I recommend you google "Weaving Glossary" for terms and definitions to get more familiar with what is what and check out all the articles on my websites! :)

Thank you Joyce for this great video! I’d often wondered if you could transfer backstrap to a rigid heddle. I have a couple of questions: 1. Is it possible to add a string heddle to the plain weave so that you don’t have to pick up each time? 2. When picking up the border strings, does it matter if you don’t pick up the same string each time? Or, is it easy to tell which is the string you picked up previously? Thanking you in advance for any reply! You are such an inspiration :) x

Thank you for your kind words! Sorry for taking so long to get back to you. Life got in the way. To answer your question: Sure, you can add string heddles. Why not!? :) It's important to pick up the correct warp threads on the selvages and it's easy to tell which one you did last time. Just remember to go OVER the first thread when ENTERING the shed and then UNDER the last thread when EXITING the shed. You will never miss the outer most selvage thread if you remember this. Over/Enter, Under/Exit.

Thank you SO much for this video... every one I’ve watched until now has left me confused but yours is very easy to understand! One question~ should you use a heddle such as a 10 or 12 epi or does it matter? Thanks again! Paula

Thank you for your kind words! Sorry for taking so long to get back to you. Life got in the way. To answer your question: That depends n the size of the yarn you are using, but for "inkle" weaving, it doesn't matter. A 10 dent or even an 8 dent would, however, using an 8 dent would make it easier to pick the threads than it would a 12 dent.
