How to do Subaru Manual Transmission and Differential Fluid Service on my 2017 Subaru Impreza Sport

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video I'll show you how I did my own 30,000 Mile Service on my 2017 Subaru Impreza with manual transmission. While researching for this video, I watched another video showing this service on a Crosstrek. They're virtually the same car. I'll post a link further down below.
The process for the manual trans is similar to the automatic but with a few key differences. In addition to new fluids, you'll need to get new gaskets for your drain plug(s). The manual requires one new gasket. The automatic will need four. I will list all the parts and tools I used for this project further down in the description.

    Good reminder on the rear diff bolts are not the torx/hex head as it is on the AT version. Just got the adaptor so I can do the simple oil change.

    Thank you for making this video. Not only was all of the information great but you gave me the confidence to perform these services myself! On a sidenote, I went to the Subaru dealership to get the gear oil (turned out to be less expensive than other options) and the Parts Department sales associate gave me the 3 additional gaskets (no charge) but like you mentioned, i didn't need them.

    Good video By the way, you should do a rev-hang delete. Makes the MT way better to drive. (2018 here :D)

    thanks! I had to google what rev-hang delete was. I haven't noticed anything weird.. and I own 5 cars with manual transmissions. lol. I find the Subaru one of my favorite and smoothest to drive. What exactly is it the rev hang?

    @@rayregnogarage I made some short recordings back when I did mine, I'll try to upload it later. Basically the ECU makes the revs drop slowly after releasing gas (most noticeable when clutching in to upshift). You can tune it out with a Tactrix Openport 2.0 and SubaruEdit.

    @@rayregnogarage Yes, its a great forum! Not sure if it will let me link here or not: kzread.info/dash/bejne/n3ubqpikk9vcY6w.html I also linked my corrected table in the description. The video was made by revving up in 1st gear, then clutching in and releasing gas at same time, and just waiting. No clutch assisted RPM drop.

    Maybe a dumb question but does the dipstick have anything to do with the rear diff fluid levels?

  • @rayregnogarage

    @rayregnogarage

    No. They're completely unrelated. the dipstick is just the engine oil

    @@rxbandit256 I forgot that there is a dipstick for the trans. But no, that dipstick is not related to the rear diff. They are separate.
