    Love your skate style and tutorials!! Thanks to you, I learned a bunch of different layback tricks including this one. For extra style points, as you’d say, I’d do like revert drop in thing at the end of the layback roll out, so that you end up going fakie. Your tutorials inspire me so much! Keep it up!

    i’ve been trying this for months i can’t wait to try these tips today!! i don’t know why but the hardest part for me was shifting my weight to drop in once i’m up there! i always got stuck :( i never thought to practice moving my hand across the coping to shift the weight haha.

    That's not a layback rollout. It's just a layback grind. A rollout is when you roll right past the coping onto the rollout deck then wheel around on your back wheels in one motion and roll in. Come on man, who doesn't know the difference between a layback grind and a layback rollout. Rollout ALWAYS means rolling up ON TOP of the deck.

  • @TheRaddiiZone

    @TheRaddiiZone

    2 жыл бұрын

    Oh shoot! Really? You’d better go tell Duane Peters (the guy who invented the trick) he’s been doing it wrong for 30+ years!!!

  • @misterslats

    @misterslats

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@TheRaddiiZone Actually he's been doing both layback grinds and layback rollouts for about 42 years. And he does them both right. A "rollout" in any form involves rolling your board up over the coping "OUT" onto the deck. When you lay your trailing hand down and roll a complete 180 on top of the deck and back into the transition it's, guess what, a layback rollout. You're not "out" of the transition if you're on the coping, sorry. What's a roll-in my man? It's when you ride the platform/deck and drop into the transition while rolling in one fluid motion. Roll-out is when you ride up the transition and pop out onto the deck in one fluid motion. Put your hand down and do a 180 on your back wheels on top of the rollout deck and roll right over the coping down the tranny - THAT'S a layback rollout. Come on man how can you not know that in your 40's?

    @@misterslatsI do hate skate semantics, as ppl refer to the same tricks as all sorts of diff names… I always thought what you are talking bout was a Neil Blender “hand out” jgrantbrittainphotos.com/products/neil-blender-handout-80s-skateboarding-photo-j-grant-brittain-skate-photo-skateboarding-photography-print And All pics of DP layback rollouts I’ve seen look like this: daveswiftphotography.com/duane-peters-layback-rollout-garden-grove-california-2004/ But hey… prove me wrong! Id love to see some clips

  • @thepancakemann

    @thepancakemann

    Agree 💯 actually. Was searching KZread for a proper rollout And this wasn't it. Great layback 5-0 to tail, but not what I was looking for. Calling this a semantic argument is minimizing the importance of naming tricks with precision, or at least accuracy.

  • @misterslats

    @misterslats

    @@thepancakemann Here's my conclusion: I'm in my 50's. I started skateboarding in 1977 and was around to see and master countless vert tricks in their infancy and also to see their very first sequence and how-to photos in magazines. Between 77-85 there were SO MANY tricks invented. Dozens. In the decades since then? Countless countless more. I've noticed that A LOT of skaters over the last 20 years specifically have renamed old tricks or use names today that actually belonged to a different trick at one time. The layback grind now being called a layback rollout by some is probably one of the most common examples of one trick being identified by the name of another older but similar trick. You know what the kids today call a manual on the deck woulda just been called a rollout at one time. ANY trick involving popping out and rolling on top of the deck is a rollout. Or at least it was for the first 20 or 30 years. You're not rolling out if you're grinding. Anyway all you have to do is search layback rollout on KZread and you can see how muddied the nomenclature has become cuz all you're gonna see is layback grinds snapped to tail. I dunno when it started but I guess in 2022 that's what kids today call a layback rollout. Historically it's wrong but there's nothing I can do about it. Just go skateboarding everybody! It's the coolest thing that's ever been invented and it keeps you feeling young forever.
