How to do a compression test on your engine *134000 miles*
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Hi everyone hope you keeping well.
As promised I performed a compression test on my 1.8T golf gti that's done 134k miles. I was very happy with the results considering the mileage its done and the fact that its been running 300bhp on stock internals for the last 20k miles.
I used a laser compression tester bought from machine mart and really advise that you don't use these cheap ones off Ebay due to the inconsistency I had in the past.
As always thanks for watching and keep safe.

Very good compression results 👍. You have reminded me to do mine now. Great video as always mate.

Thanks mate 👍🏼
I agree with you about the compression testers. Tried it for myself. The cheap one showed only 8 Bar and the better one 14.5 Bar. Just out curiosity, I used the pipe of the better tester on the gauge of the cheap one, and now it also showed 14.5 Bar. The car I tested was my VW Polo 9N3 (2006) with the 1.4l 16V (non Turbo) engine. The mileage is around 248k km. Pretty consistent with all the cylinders. Conclusion: the better tester has a schrader valve on it which made the difference. Such a small detail made a night and day difference. Thanks for the video. 😃
Very healthy engine for the age the maintenance you carry out is doing the engine very good 👍

Yeah it’s healthy to my surprise actually. I expected it to be lower. But I suppose you look after them and they stay happier for longer.

@@Mk4heavenHD How did you keep the engine so healthy? im doing a compression test soon on my mk7R from 2014 its stage 2 so im really curious to see how it whitstands the tune! i do my oil change every 15k km and dsg oil every 30k km

@@blackops2376 Hi mate,i bought the car on 80k miles and ive always changed the oil every 3-5k miles in some cases even after 1500 miles. The key for me is not abusing it also and avoiding the redline/rev limiter. I always warm the car up properly before boosting and let it cool down after boosting. Hope this helps

Thanks bro, I didn’t do a video on that but I mentioned it on my 5 part building a 300bhp golf.
Hi mate, love the videos. Big help for me! I bought a mk2 golf with a 1.8t conversion that needs a bit work, a bit out of my depth but learning as I go. I ran a compression test following your video, what do you think of my results? The engine is a 130,000 mile AMK from a s3. Cylinder 1: 175 psi Cylinder 2: 190 psi Cylinder 3: 190 psi Cylinder 4: 175 psi. Obviously 1 and 4 are down a bit. Should I be worried at all? The engine runs well.

Hi Mate thanks for watching and supporting, Glad you’ve joined the 1.8T family lol. Those results are good mate considering the mileage is similar to my golf. I wouldn’t be worried about anything there. If those two results were under 150 then hmmmm I would be like okay you might have an issue somewhere. Enjoy the car mate.

i just crossed 160,000 miles on MK4. It is completely stock (I know boring). That said the engine is starting to tire and it's time i run a compression test. I put about 500 miles a week on it, so fingers crossed!

Wow that’s a lot of mileage a week. I suppose it’s fair to say they good engines and can take a good beating on.I’m sure it will be fine.

Can the 1800 turbo engine be converted from cable manifold to electric manifold?
@Mk4heavenHD

I’m sure it can but this would mean ecu also will need to be changed and wiring looms sensors etc. It’s possible.
Hey bro there is no problem with the turbo pipe in my mk4 i cant put it like you my ingine is way upper then yours its to close to the head

Would the compression be the same on bam rngine 99miles on it

Im not 100 percent sure I would say BAM should be similar to aum.
My results were Cylinder #1 120 Cylinder #3 130 Cylinder #2 130 Cylinder #4 120 Is that too low? Should be worried?

Hi mate depends on what the manufacturer deems appropriate for good and bad. I know on the 1.8T 160-200 is considered fresh engine, anything below 140 is rather low. The other thing to consider is the tester being used, I made a separate video on this and you must use a good quality branded one. Here is a link for the 1.8T guide that shows in bar which needs to be converted to psi. donkiespeed.nl/audi-1-8t-20v-checking-compression/
This miles with stock first engine? Or with rebuild or forged?

Yeah 195-200 is considered a fresh 1.8T lol, I have no idea how it’s still fresh after all the thrashing it gets lol, I do maintain the car very well tho servicing every 3-5k miles and only use quantum platinum.
Thanks for the test but heavy accent..😃😃..
