Thanks for the video! I've been looking everywhere and nobody has a tutorial for rudder installation on Ascend kayaks. I have the FS128T and I have to assume the installation is very similar. Any lessons learned or changes you've made since you posted this video back in Oct. 2016? Thanks again!

Great video I just got the same rudder today and was wanting to know do you have any problem with it staying down in the water without a spring holding down especially when paddling??? I was thinking of adding a spring but if not needed one less thing to buy . Thanks

+moto man have no problem keeping it down in the water. Just keep the pull down strap in handy just incase it does decides to lift

+PMAC19 T Thanks! I didnt get the steering pedals because I didnt really want to take my original foot brace off. I believe the steering pedals would be very beneficial.

Bali 10 ss was my first kayak too.

would have gone with a proper transom gudgeon instead of the oar bracket...but, you can always change that eventually

great video I'm planning on doing the same thing but I want to make sure it works for you. so my question is does rudder make difference on keeping the kayak straight?

+kayak maniak it does definitely. I mean a world of a difference. Without it, i would spin around and i had to keep the paddle on my lap to correct it... with the rudder installed, i can keep my kayak pointing to where i want it to go while im fishing parallel to the shore. Hope this explains it very clearly. Cheers!

+Rick Rabies thanks! Im building up to a quality camera. The rudder works amazingly well. I highly recommend the rudder if you are frustrated with the wind or current turning your front around.

I would have mounted the oar bracket to the kayak instead of the flat stock..welldone though

I tried to mount it on there but the rudder would rub when turning

Try doubling up the brackets and put the two of them together instead of just one on each side, and they won't bend.

Those sharp straps should be cut off and ground, files or sanded smooth so you don't cut your hands or fishing line near the rear lifting handle.

Dave R they still going strong! Havent had to change them out in over 2 years. And i dont wash my kayak after use either.
