Sounds like the cubes are limiting your imagination! Ever thought about switching to IKEA Billy bookcases? They are 80cm wide, slightly shallower but you can adjust the individual shelves to accommodate for the taller toys so you can actually put the characters where they belong. I would suggest glass doors and dust strips but.. you know, dust collectors so 😏
