How to Disassemble & Change Coilover Springs (COMPLETE GUIDE)
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Getting your suspension dialled in may require more patience and finessing than you might have expected. A set of fully adjustable coilovers will give you the ability to adjust your ride height, along with preload and dampening as you wish, however you cannot adjust the spring rate. If you would like to change how your car rides, you will most likely need to swap out your springs for something stiffer/ softer depending on how you prefer your car. I prefer running a stiff set of springs, with very soft dampening. I’m yet to run into problems where the shock absorber needs to be rebuild because the fluid may pass from one side of the shock to the other without much resistance. In this video, I will show you how I replace the coilover springs on my BC coilovers. Not only am I changing the spring rate, but I am also changing the spring size which should in theory give me more useable shock stroke.

Saw how bad my coils were on my BC’s today and was stressing about replacing them but after watching this video I feel confident with installing the new springs and restoring them.Thanks for all the great information in this video! Subscribed.
This makes so much sense now. I’ve seen videos lowering and raising your car with coils and they would mess up the pre load. This whole time i been doing it wrong. Thanks bro
I stumbled upon your channel a day or two ago because i just got a really clean 2011 black accord coupe and im very impressed with your videos. cant wait to watch more and brainstorm about what i will be doing to my car
i love your complete guides good to understand and enjoy to learn!!!
I love the Accord vids, keep em coming!
Dude. I’ve been going crazy trying to find out which swift spring I should buy for my coilovers but couldn’t find the info anywhere on the size for the springs I have installed. You just answered my question in the first 2 minutes !!!thank you.

how do you find stiffer springs for your rear when it’s a divorced setup and the rear springs are bigger than the front? for example rear springs are 194mm in length and ID is about 100mm-115mm… i’ve sourced front springs but having a very hard time sourcing the back. would really appreciate any kind of help 🙏🏾
U did a badass job explaining everything thank you
Very helpful video, I need to refresh my coilovers too 👌🏽

Howzit bro .. awesome video .. I have a set of ics coilovers on my Ford Focus which are ridiculously hard even on the softest setting .. is there anyway to make them softer .. maybe change the fluid Inside the shock ?
This guy's a 💎 wish had his tools.
This guy is legit
How is the 14k running too stiff or are they good for daily use ??
I wonder if you can’t loosen pre load in car so it’s stable and you can wrench on it without using air tool. Just an idea
Thanks!

Hey! I have a set of d2 coilovers on my 2012 honda crv but one of my springs broke. I try to contact the manufacturer to get a replacement but they take about a month to send it so I’m wondering if I can replace it with a different brand.
To avoid the need for air tools, another way to do this, is like this: Note- there is ONE ADJUSTER ring (top one) and TWO LOCK rings (the next two rings- one after the adjuster and the lowest one locking the collar tight). 1) Measure the heights of everything, and write it down (as he mentioned in the video). 2) However, BEFORE removing the entire strut, spray WD-40 then crack the spring LOCK ring, and undo it 25mm (1inch) down the shaft thread, apply more WD-40 as needed.. 3) Use the adjuster tool and crack the spring ADJUSTER ring. 4) Spray more WD-40 on the threads. 5) Start undoing it until the spring pressure is released. 6) The collar LOCK ring can now be cracked loose, because the collar is still bolted into the car's trailing/suspension arm. 7) Spray WD-40 above it and undo it UP the shaft, a bit. 8) Now remove entire assembly and you will be more easily able to remove all 3 rings with WD-40 etc by hand or with minimal tool force I hope this helps someone

should i trust u bro?
Great video . So my question is I have tein flex z coil overs which rate a 2.5 drop and I dropped it so there is no space between the 3 rings.. now when I have the car jacked up the entire spring can move up and down and all around like it’ just dangling around the shock.. is this because I dropped the car too low and the springs aren’t long enough ? When I drop the car the spring is tight again so idk if I can just leave it or should it not be completely loose when the car is jacked up?? Or should I try to buy longer springs ? I’m so lost

Bay a Helpet spring
I'm not sure about the numbers on the springs, is there a guide on standards. My cusco springs has 065-250-065. It is a 65mm 250mm 5kg spring. And my aragosta spring says 220-22-38 which I have no idea what they are as the length of the spring is around 260mm by 65mm.
So 12k was better than 8k for your daily?? How are they in the rain or snow? And i watched the video but don’t get the difference between 180- or 220
I'm curious... were these the coilovers that you used covers on, over winter?
@imnota

No that was on the 240sx
We’re can I get a set of those springs please send me the link.
To those of us daily drivers who have Winters with snow; just wrap your coilovers with contractor garbage bags and zipties to protect them in the Autumn.
Did you make any changes to your valving in the shocks? Im looking to change from 18k to 20k and cant decide if I can just change the spring and not have to do anything else
@zoom_shields
Жыл бұрын
I have the same question, I read on bc racing’s website that you can change spring rate plus or minus by 2k without having to change the valving. I think that the valving in those shocks aren’t happy with the stiffer springs in there
So I need your advice on something. I drive a 2012 mazda 3 hatchback lowered on godspeed coilovers and I want to go lower than what the coilovers will allow me. I want to do spring upgrades because my fronts are 62mm 200mm length 8k and my rears read 62mm 190mm length 5k. Could I do shorter springs but the same spring rate? Or is it better to do shorter springs and a stiffer spring rate to compensate for weight?
@milanmastracci
3 жыл бұрын
So a shorter spring will give you less suspension travel, where a stiffer spring will require more force to compress it. It sounds like you need something like BC extreme low's if you're maxing out the amount of shock for your car. I wouldn't recommend it, but you CAN remove the lower shock collar.
A quick question, my car getting very bumpy after installing a high lo bodyshift coilovers. Will changing the springs improve/decrease the bumpiness? Or its the strut/absorber itself?
@milanmastracci
4 жыл бұрын
You need to change the dampening on the coilovers to softer so it can actually absorb bumps.
@kingrare5

Its a pneumatic air hammer. Yes I agree. As soon as I saw it with a chisel attachment, I knew immediately those aluminum locking rings were toast. A little patience and muscle would have suffice for option #2 spring removal.

I got godspeed for my gs430 springs to soft for me but I found out godspeed makes custom coilover springs I'm wondering does the middle numbers matter ? My coilover is 62.200.010 in front and 62.220.008 in back .I see they got 62.200.014kg for my front but I cant find 220mm for my rears so I'm wondering if I can use a 180mm for my rears ?
@msmarshall854

The difference between 220mm and 180mm is only about 1.5 inches----check to see if your coilover adjustment can make up for this----it probably can to be honest......
sooo im trying to replace my rear springs and my coilovers in the rear are set up with the shock & spring separate. my springs say 62 98 220 005v F . having a hard time finding some stiffer springs so i was wondering if anyone could help.🙏🏼
You should use dry lube from WD40. It deters water + dust.
I brought some coilover for my car installed it but it seems to be riding stiff and hard what can I do to have a not so good stiff ride
@nicholasplxtts

cut bump stops maybe? Or smoother springs
When changing to a different spring rate, shouldn't you change the length of the spring? Since a softer spring will compress more under the cars weight than a harder spring. Also, how do you know how much longer or shorter the spring should be when changing spring rates?
@MRMAN-wb1tv
2 жыл бұрын
You don't pay attention too well lol. The numbers on the the spring tells you the length, preload, and rate. The coilover raises, lowers, and compresses using mm threads.
Can you run 65mm Id on 62?
Do you think I could put bc extreme low springs on my coils to go lower

CarPro Installs nah no clunking. Check the top plate. Make sure the center but is on tight. A friend had Tein coil overs and the top plate that mounts on the strut tower was a little loose and we tightened it up and no more clunk. Try that first. We took the wheel off and had it on jack stands and we put a small jack under it and we noticed that it was moving
