@@carstoniu yeah and that doesn’t work on hemi’s that don’t have a tow mode. I instead got a diablosport tuner and turned off MDS permanently

Another lesson: Newer eco engines hate dirty oil. They say oil goes 10,000 Miles? It might? Filters don`t go 10,000 miles. Dirty oil and excessive idling kills DOD / MDS engines!

I don’t even do 10,000 km on my oil let alone 10,000 miles and I’m pretty sure that when we had jeeps the maximum the manual says you can go on an oil change was around 13 or 14,000 km if I remember right with synthetic oil. And those would be under ideal driving conditions probably mostly highway, you can buy better filters that are good apparently for up to 20,000 km.

Chrysler recommends pennzoil, which is trash oil... I use mobil 1 or valvoline full synthetic.. ALSO these are big engines, that hold alot of oill. the engines take time to warm up.. let yiour engine get close to normal op temp before you go romping on it..

Not sure where you get the idea that penzoil is trash. Penzoil ultra platinum performs extremely well in testing. Right up there with royal purple and consistently in the top 3.

evidently you have nt torn apart many engines , pennzoil leaves a sticky, yellow. sludgy wax film on the internals. . the oil change sticker always says pennzoil on it.., mobil 1 or valvoline is all I will use.. not the cheap venezuelan tar . not sure if they changed the formula for the ultra platinum but that isnt the common oil.. not the run of the mill oil most use.. @@jonh2408

ive used valvoline or mobil 1 all my life and all of my engines look new inside over 208.000 miles on my old 94 chevy k1500. I use it as a workhorse, pulling boats, horse trailer.,s , bulls, long distances and it runs great and is very clean inside. I have for years ran a bottle of marvel mystery oil thru the gas tank, now and then and before an oil change, I put half a bottle in the oil and run the truck abt 20 minutes then drain it.

when you accelerate, MDS shuts off automatically. You will not have power loss.

Just had my 2012 Dodge Ram Express 5.7 rebuilt due to collapsed lifter on # 5 and a chewed up camshaft with 96k. Had the MDS deleted while it was being repaired. Run smooth with no hint of a tick. Gas mileage about the same with full time 8. Just had transmission serviced and new fuel filter pump installed. Hopefully good to go for many trouble free miles. I would not buy another truck that has this catastrophic engine design.

I have a 2015 1500 and never have any E light, always just wonder. Someone else said town haul mode works too. I've used the manual or tow and just assume they're working.

I know it’s been awhile since this video.. but all I did was crank my truck up, unplug the egr valve sensor. Waited till the check engine light came on and reconnected the egr sensor. No unhook battery left it connected and it’s stay in 8 cylinder no mds kick in.

Why don’t they just have a button for me to choose when I want fuel savings or power. I fucking hate when car companies think a computer is gonna know better than me. Might as well remove the gas pedal too 🤦‍♂️

It’s not car company’s, it’s the government. Chrysler pays massive penalties to our communist dictators, while they give Tesla millions of our tax dollars every year. We all will be driving Samsung washing machines in 20 years because half the country votes for democrats.

This process has to be done manually every time upon startup or park to drive shifting in my 2017 ram. Would suggest deleting mds with tune.

Anytime you shut the vehicle off or shift from Drive to reverse or neutral, you will have to do this again.

Easier solution: Anytime the ECO light comes on --- just hit the gas for a sec.

I got a 2014 ram, 5.7, i got a 6sp transmission, if i set the gear box to 6th gear with the manual option, will it still shift thru the gears? And not have any issues or problems with the motor or transmission

Yea it’s the same difference but you can drive using paddles without being in sport mode.

In my 2013 Ram, I simply turn on the Tow/Haul mode. That turns off the MDS as well.

Might just be the newer vehicles or it might just be the durangos but in my 2022 RT I got a button at his press and I turn it off and it has a memory so if I shut the vehicle off and start up again it still turned off

The only thing that sucks is the every time you put in park you have do it again. A tune will actually turn it off. It is a great compromise to be able to disable it though and I do without even thinking about at this point.

this doesnt work on a 21 charger, i have to actually move the stick shift to manual mode, but when done with the paddle shifters its stays there for a minute then goes back to automatic

rams only go back to 2009 with manual shifting. my 2008 has 4 speed auto. no manual selector.

I found the mds/vvt harness and de-pinned the mds solenoids--don't have remote start and have a light on but guess what..no need to shift manually (which isn't recommended to use 24/7 on the 65rfe)

Does this work on the 2006 Jeep Commander with the 5.7? My MDS system is failing and is continuously shutting down cylinders in and out. I have the 4 speed. I can manually shift between 1-4. I've been putting in 4th and just driving and it feels like its working.

I had same problem as you on a 2005 WK, and do the same as you, I did get all my MDS solenoids replaced with Mopar OEM ones and that has fixed MDS for now its working fine

I went with bigger tires. Now I don't have to remember to take it out of eco. Lol

So you have to do this every time you restart your truck it's not going to stay there?

I have a 2019 Challenger R/T and just have it in sport mode and the MDS is off

Does it change fuel mileage?

Tow Haul mode will also disable MDS.

This doesn't work with a 2022 Rebel 1500 G/T package which comes with the 5.7 eTorque. There is no gear limit, only a sport mode. The truck limits the gear you can select up or down based off current speed.

Gear Limit is NOT manual shifting for a RAM. All that does is limit the highest gear the truck will go to. example, driving in snow, you don't need 8th gear. set it at 5 and 5th gear is the highest gear the truck will shift to. Only RAM truck with paddle shifters have " manual mode"

Never let vehicle idle especially a late model gas .

I’ve been doing it occasionally on my 2016 Ram 1500 hemi. Need to do it more tho I never noticed any fuel economy difference tho

You might get an extra mile or two depending on your driving but it's nothing crazy unless you're just creeping down the road but you can do that with 8 cylinders activated too

While in "manual mode" , do I have to use those (gear+, -)buttons to shift? It seemed like you were still driving it as an automatic.

Manual mode only limits the transmission to shift as high as the highest gear selected. Lower gears are unaffected. Shifts automatically as usual.

Interesting... I THINK this also applies to much older Chrysler branded products with the HEMI and NAG1 autostick transmission. I get 14mpg in stop and go traffic, auto mode only, and MDS active. On a flat highway at 55mph, I can get up to 25mpg in my Magnum. That's a huge difference and I attribute it to MDS. No way am I getting 25mpg with all 8 cylinders active. I only wish MDS was trouble free. I've heard too many rumors of MDS being bad for the motor long term. So I'm torn, MPG or longevity... :(

I’ll give you my experience with MDS. I had a 2014 Ram 1500 with that MDS 5.7 Hemi engine and after 160,000 miles I get a check engine light. I get trouble code P0303, cylinder 3 misfire. So I do some research and the potential issues could have been a bad coil, faulty spark plugs, even faulty fuel injectors. So I replace ALL of it and still that dreaded P0303 code kept popping up. I take it to the dealership to get it diagnosed and they said that the lifters, camshaft and rocker arms need to be replaced. They wanted to charge me $7,090 to perform the work! Needless to say I did the work myself and sold it. There’s my two cents on the MDS engine.

It’s actually not a manual shift…it’s a gear limiter…exactly what it says on the controls. Manual shift would allow you to go up and down through the gears and hold a certain gear. The gear limiter only allows you limit what highest gear you want.

i have a 2018 GC SRT , i put it in sport and it disables it, obviously the gas mileage is much worse, but i didnt buy this car for mpgs lol

unfortunetly you have to do this everytime you move the shifter to park or start the vehicle.

My 2019 Ram Eco mode can be disabled in the settings on the touch screen. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Just set it to 8 so you are still utilizing all 8 gears and it will shift like normal but if that feature is engaged at all it will never go into eco mode. You have to do it every time you start it up or whenever you go in out of drive which kinda sucks but it literally takes a second. That's for newer Ram trucks at least that's the only thing I own with the 5.7L.

So I tried this on my drive home. First of all while the truck is running it will not let you shift pass second gear in manual mode. Once you get going, you can shift up to eighth gear but it will just stay in that gear. The only way to keep it out of Eco mode on my ram GT is to manually shift at the whole time. The weird thing is that it will downshift from eights all the way down to first but it will not upshift. Also my truck has a consol shifter with paddle shifters as well.

It doesn’t work with my GT because of the e torque motor it has which is driven by the engine. I also talked to a Dodge service advisor and he told me most of the issues are from people not changing their oil on time.

Update, you can disable it if you put it in tow hall mode. If you check out the KZread channel Reignited, the gentleman is a factory trained Chrysler/Dodge technician, and says there is no reason to disable the MDS as it is not the reason for camshaft and lifter failure. His reason is lack of maintenance and low oil pressure at idle. He has a lot of experience with these engines and he gives some great examples and shows you what all the components actually look like. It’s worth checking out if anything I would turn off the stop and start, this is probably worse for your engine than anything else as you are starting it up after the oil has drained back into the oil pan. You also using the auxiliary battery a lot more and apparently is worth 2500 bucks! If you have the e torque hemi option.

If you stomp will it shift pass selected gear??

Not sure how it works on the newer models but on a 2009 model I had, doing this would prevent the truck from shifting into overdrive when at highway speeds.

No MDS is great, but I don't care to manually shift the automatic all the time.

Which models have MDS? I am interesting to buy a challenger for daily usage and consuming so much gas daily is a minus .

It doesn't stay in that gear. It goes through the gears like normal. A gear limiter just won't allow it to go past whatever gear it is set to. It's mainly used if say you were pulling a trailer and wanted it to stay in a lower gear to utilize more of your RPM range.

Supposedly in 2016 the lifters were upgraded so it's "not" a problem anymore. At least much more rare

I would like a way to reset my tpms on my ram 2500 80 lb in tires is to much with out load I run 45 to 50 all the way around have to clear it evertime a crank it to go

So just stay in manual mode

This does not work on my 2022 R/T Scatpack. Sport mode or Track mode will still allow MDS... I think it's peak comedy that someone who buys a car with a 6.4L V8 would care about fuel economy... but here we are. Side note, I know it's actually about emissions regulations but it's still funny!

The problem I have is in my 21 RT if I go into sport mode the car won't go into 7th or 8th gear unlest I'm doing like 70 on the highway. And sport mode makes the car snappier and louder which is nice but I don't want that when I'm just cruising down the highway.

Just a diablo tune.. 91 or 93..

Thats not manual shifting, it's a gear limit for towing.

@@lowstakescrusher I'm definitely right. The gear limit is just that, a limit. You set what gear you want as the max, and the transmission will shift normally up to that gear. Tow/haul does not limit how many gears the transmission will use, it optimizes shift points for more power and will downshift for better engine braking. Tow/haul also reduces the risk of transmission overheating.

This does not work on a 2020 ram 1500 v6. 😢
