How to Develop an eLearning Prototype | How-To Workshop

#eLearning #InstructionalDesign #ArticulateStoryline #elearningdevelopment
When you're designing and developing an eLearning course, after you've written a storyboard, it's usually a good idea to create some sort of prototype. A prototype is simply a sampling of your course, which you can use to validate the functionality of your course, establish the look and feel of your course, and get initial reactions from your stakeholders and subject matter experts before you fully develop the course.
And while prototypes can come in many different forms, they usually fall into three categories: wireframe prototypes, visual prototypes, and MVP or functional prototypes.
So, in this How-To Workshop, I'll walk you through how to create an eLearning prototype, along with the different types of prototypes and when to use each one.

This is a really under discussed topic! I do a LOT of prototyping work in my current role, and learning WHAT feedback to ask for has taken me a while to develop. Thanks so much for this!

Thanks for sharing! I think prototyping is a hard skill to master. For me, I'm always fighting against my urges to make it as polished as possible...and, as you mention, it's so important to be able to clearly articulate what you want others to focus on when sharing that prototype for feedback.

Great videos, Tim. Keep up the good work. I’d love to see more how to workshops for developing interactions in storyline, such as examples of the performance interactions you mentioned in one of your videos.

Hi Tim, this session is really helpful. So what we do is break this up into two parts - the wireframe which we call the static GUI screens to give the client to show the color scheme, how the Help and other buttons on the interface will appear. By doing this, we save time while creating the Functional Prototype as we already have the GUI in place.

Compared to the bearded guy that promotes the storyline product, your explanation is very clear and direct to the point. I've learned a lot from your videos in a very short and tight schedule. Thanks again for sharing.

It depends on how advanced of a tool you want to use. For me, I'd suggest Adobe InDesign...but it's a complex tool. Microsoft Word or Publisher are good and similar alternatives.

Great question! There are some instances when you might want to skip storyboarding, but I don’t usually recommend it. I explain why in this video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/f6mlrc2IfdSroco.html

@@elearningacdmy Thank you Tim. I'm simply looking for the fastest way to create courses because that's what my managers want. I am in charge of creating the concept, which I pass on to the developer who develops it in Articulate. They want it to be interactive and interesting of course, but not too time-consuming.

@@milan6439 Got it! Thanks for sharing. If you're "creating the concept" and then passing it off to another developer to build, then a storyboard is exactly what you want to be using to create that concept. Perhaps, a good option might be to create a visual storyboard, which can help make the development a bit faster.
