How to Build a Custom Menu in Articulate Storyline | How-To Workshop
#eLearning #InstructionalDesign #ArticualteStoryline
When you're designing a course in Articulate Storyline, rather than creating a linear course or using the built-in menu in the player, you can create your own custom on-screen menu for learner navigation.
In these situations, you may want to track and visually display what menu items the learner has or has not viewed, as well as, control menu access depending on whether or not they've completed certain sections. Luckily, you can easily do this using variables, conditional triggers, and button states.
So, in this How-To Workshop, I'll show you how to create a custom menu in Articulate Storyline, using variables, conditional triggers, and button states.

I'm glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
This guy is criminally underrated. I bought an entire course on Udemy, but couldn't understand. And here, my guy got it all covered in a single video. Obviously, a lot of other features are there, but it really helped me get good grasp over Storyline. Thanks and Cheers, Tim.

Lol...thanks! You don't want to know how many years I went without knowing about that!
Small tip… When renaming items, start with the type of object, eg: “Button - Next” instead of “Next button” “Text - User profile” instead of “User profile text” This will come in handy when you have to select objects from drop down menus (like when setting up triggers) where they’re all listed alphabetically by their name. This especially comes in handy on more elaborate slides with a lot of objects to pick from. All your buttons, text boxes, etc. will be grouped together in the drop down lists, making it easier to find what you’re looking for.

That is a great idea! Thanks for the tip.
Every video you create is full of useful information that one would actually use in a project, presented in a clear, concise format that is easy to understand yet in a style that is anything but dry! Thank you for all the excellent tips (especially the trigger order!!!) Cheers

Hey Tim, Thank you so much for sharing the knowledge through this video. I request if you can make a non-linear course with Voice over on the main menu slide.

Great suggestion! I'll add it to my list!
I have just used this technique but I also want the audio to change on the main page too! I cant seem to find out how to do it. Do you have a tutorial on that? :D
Hey Tim! Appreciate the walk thru example. Just curious since I don't yet have Articulate 360 to test myself, for the last trigger to enable the course summary Learn More button, could you have checked the state of the Lock icon as Unlocked instead of checking the three module variables? Based on the previous trigger to set it to Unlocked, those three conditions would have had to been met already.

Yep! You absolutely could have. That's a great example of how there's always more than one way to do something in Storyline. :)
Loved this video, Tim! Super helpful as I'm trying to build more interactive and custom Storyline courses. For the lock states, could you just replace the locked picture with the unlocked picture to keep the sizing the same?
@elearningacdmy
Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching, Vanessa! And yes, for the lock icon...you could very much just make the "unlocked" state display as an unlock icon, rather than it just disappearing. You'd just want to create a custom state for how you want it to look as unlocked, and then have the trigger change it to that state when all those variables are equal to true. I hope that makes sense!
Hi Tim, Grate session. At 5:37, how did make the pop-up animation in storyline

Thanks for watching! Those little pop-up animations are simply markers in Storyline. Here's how to create them: kzread.info/dash/bejne/dH2IyslmaZTNnso.html
