How To Cut 🧅Onions - Dice & Mince

Onions slide in at the✌ most popular vegetable in the world. Learning to properly cut and prep onions can make a huge difference in the flavor and texture it adds to your food. Plus, a sharp knife knife = less tears😉
1. Use any of our 5 sharp chopping knives to slice off the top stem end of the onion
2. Laying the onion flat on the cutting board, cut in half and peel back the top 2-3 outer layers leaving them connected. This give you something to grip onto when dicing
3. Place one half cut onion with cut side down so that the root end is now on the left and the non-root end is on the right. With the flat of your non-dominant hand on top of the onion and your knife parallel to the cutting board, make 2-3 cuts horizontally through the middle of the onion cutting toward, but not through, the root
4. To dice, use the tip of the knife to make vertical cuts down through the onion lengthwise and not cutting through the root. Now grip the onion by the peeled back top layers and cut down and through the non-root side to dice
5. To mince, pile the diced onion in the center of the cutting board. Now Cross Cut by keeping the tip of the knife on the cutting board and placing your opposite hand on the top of the blade while you rock your knife over the pile. Repeat piling and Cross Cutting until you reach your desired mince size

Great video on properly dicing an onion. Learned a lot. Have a set of about every Cutco knife available and just got a storage block at a Cutco sale at my local Costco. Also have my in-laws Cutco steak knives and a couple of their Cutco kitchen knives dating from about 1958. Still sharp and wonderful quality!

Fantastic! Just ran a knife skills for home cooks class this evening and had everyone make pico de gallo to practice their knife skills. Some good ships and you have a crowd pleaser

The sound it makes going through the onion is a crushing noise. An actual sharp knife won't do that. For example kzread.info/dash/bejne/mpuElbmwha_fh8o.html

@@kitchenguyluke3559Thank you . I got mine set from Costco. Customer service was not that helpful when I called for two years. Shipping charges are not cheap. After soo many phone calls, and talking with Cutco representatives at special events I somehow got in touch last week with someone who wave shipping costs, and shipped my whole set yesterday. Long waiting time is also very inconvenient, since I cook a lot and need knives. All in all , so far very disappointing investment.

@@cococho2767 , hat sounds frustrating if that's your experience for sure. After 16 years I'll tell ya that is definitely not a normal experience. I've also noticed a lot of Costco clients using the wrong knife for the wrong job which dulls the knives quickly. What knife/knives are feeling dull for ya?

@@kitchenguyluke3559 The only that worked is cheese knife, all others were sitiing in the storage comaprtement I got for knives. I am very particular to wash them and wipe thoroughly after every use...I changed all my cutting boards that could dull my knives. But to be honest cheep paring Zwilling I used all the time, bcs Cutco's were pain....so I will see how they will come back. One more thing, Cutco knives are so thick and it makes them much heavier and useless for cutting fine sweets I make. We need thiner blades knives
