I'm not trying to discount any quality of your work but the best comment I heard in this video is that you said no tech should leave a mess for a resident to clean up. Very refreshing to hear!

One huge tip that I took away from this video vs others was that he put the faucet in 1st before installing the sink. Sooooo much easier to do it this way vs putting faucet in once sink is installed. Thank you so much. Very helpful

Thank you so much. I was like what can I learn? Around 20 years ago. Me and my husband cut a hole for the sink. He cut it almost to big. And never add nothing to keep out the water under the sink. He said it would be ok against my better judgement. I had to put the faucet in afterwards he was done putting the sink in that was a pain in the butt. So My husband past away. And I'm putting in cabinets and a sink. I like be the idea of putting the faucet on a sink first. And I was right about adding putty. It will be done right this time. But still using my jigsaw since I'm still looking for the skill saw.

I just had a sink installed in my kitchen the exact same type that is in your video. The guy claims he has 20 years experience I can't tell from the work that she done this thing was not screw clamp down underneath like you showed it out used the plumbers putty around the edges to keep water leaking in between the Carter board which it did and it started to buckle up and nor did she clean up behind himself dorota complained to his his company thank you for that video it was very educational and I will use it in my complaint against the guy that installed like he's sick keep up the good work

I think I’d rather use a good quality, clear silicon sealant bead to seal everything. It can come with mold resistance, unlike plumber’s putty. I’ve looked at that anchor rail on the underside of the sink and it really doesn’t seem like it would stand up to snugging the anchors enough to squeeze out putty, but silicon sealant offers less resistance.

Plus, then I’m not pressing a whole lot on my countertop & sink like he is when it’s not supported into where I’m installing it, so I’m not taking the chance of breaking the counter in front where it’s so thin.

I like your attitude about not leaving a mess for the resident. Seems like most installers use silicone caulk, not putty. Putty tends to dry out over time and become brittle. Any thoughts on treating the exposed edges of the cut particle board to stop moisture absorption and swelling? Overall, a good video. Thanks!

  • @ppmproduction6436

Linda, thanks for watching the sink video. Another note on the plumbers putty. When you put the putty on the lip of the sink make sure you use ample amounts that it squeezes out both to the inside of the sink as well as the outsides of the sink lip. If you do that there shouldn't be any issues with water leaking into the wood using putty. BTW You're right the putty will dry out over time. So if that concerns you can use tub and shower water base caulking and smear it along the lip of the cut out before you drop in the new or repaired sink. This will stop any leaks if the putty does crack. Water base is easy to clean up, you could use 100% silicone if that's all you had. Best of luck on any and all home projects Thanks again, Ron Sorry its been so long to reply, I just never get to that part of the youtube world.

In doing our cupboards and sink install I painted the entire inside of the base cabinet for the sink first with kills to seal it and then two coats of cabinet paint to seal the MDF and any wood that would be exposed to water. Also a speed of clear silicone around the edge of the sink to the countertop

I am sure there was big chipouts. Always use a hole saw starting from the finish side and you will get perfect crisp corners everytime. I rarely can maneuver a counter top in a customer's home upside down to make cuts like this. So I usually cut from the top. Using a down cut blade on a jigsaw and hole saws for the corners

@@ThielTube but the problem I'm having is there isn't enough room between the cut line at the rear of the counter and the factory counter backsplash. I'm cutting into a 24 1/8 inch top measuring from the good side of the backsplash, I should have gotten a top that was an inch wider than what I have, so this guys method will work as long as make those holes from the top side

Great video except using plumber's putty around the perimeter of the drop in sink. Plumber's putty is not recommended because is will dry and crack and is not mold and mildew resistant. Any sink l have ever installed they manufacture always recommended using a clear silicone. Then once dry removed excess and clean with mineral spirits. Leaves no reside and is clear so it looks better than ugly brown plumber's putty, and is also mold resistant.
