How To Custom Paint Brake Calipers Properly: AUDI R8
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
As you know, I'm a HUGE fan of DIY projects. If you have the proper tools, equipment, and knowledge...then go at it! However, I'm always a bit more cautious when working on brakes for very very obvious reasons. So to keep my confidence and comfort in good standing while on the track, I went to the professionals at ProformanceIndustries.com to paint my black calipers a custom pearl red. Proformance has proprietary high temp paint that can withstand the torture of track driving and looks factory applied. Here is their step by step process for creating custom color calipers on an Audi R8. Hope you enjoy!

Geez those calipers turned out incredible! You're attention to detail has no match man. Love your videos
I love everything about your videos. From how incredible detailed they are, to the people working on your cars and your voice-over, everything is just perfect!
Don't even have calipers to paint or an r8 but I never get sick of your videos lol I love your attention to detail and explanation
This build is insane Larry! Amazing colour choices and it’s genuinely nice to see when other people who love cars and most importantly care about their craft come together like this. Each person in their own right is an artist. Amazing to watch. Thanks for sharing!
I like how you are going completely nuts with your car! They always are so unique!
Great tip to cut around a socket to create masking circles, I'm doing my calipers now and this really helped me out!
Lathe chuck+heavy gloves= ur arm wrapped around a lathe broken in a 100 places. Yikes that shit would get you fired in most aerospace shops immediately.

Yep I have seen a finger flying across a tool room when using lather gloves on Bridgeport milling machine.
You never wear gloves near a lathe. Rest looks awesome!

Hands too close to the jaws of that enormous chuck. Since he just used sandpaper, no tooling, he could have done the same job faster and safer in a drill press. That polished aluminum will probably oxidize pretty quickly since you sanded off the anodizing.
wow wow wow, those caliber colors are mental, they pop-out so good
Larry, they look out of this world. That shop knows what there doing!
Two videos in two days! I'm loving this!
I don't know why he and this channel doesn't have millions of subscribers. Absolutely love the channel and everything on it.

This exact thought comes to my mind almost every single video, especially when it comes to these thorough and step by step ones.
I love these videos so much! The Appreciation you show for the Craftsmansip at the Paintshop and Workshop is so great. Also it is thrilling to watch these pros. Thank you so much!
I just love every video on this channel and I try my best to emulate the tips for cleaning and polishing my own car. Great video as always. Much love from the Philippines.
The attention to detail is inspiring. This is so relaxing to watch. Keep going, everything you’ve done so far looks great!
This video and the other one paired with it were awesome. Great work!
I gotta' say, I love your choice of Ruby Pearl for the brake calipers. My car's color is the same with a bit more metallic, and now I want the brakes to match!
The attention to detail is what makes these videos informative and worth watching.

Larry you're videos are made of awesomeness. 2 videos in a roll? You'll spoil us. :)
Amazing stuff Larry! Love this 2 part video! They caliber's came out great!!
Man even your details are detailed!!! GREAT JOB LARRY!!!
Looks amazing!
These brakes look amazing! It really is all about the attention to detail making all of the difference.
Stunning colour Larry. Love it!
Trim black on the Wheel well is so ridiculous satisfying, now i know what i have to do this weekend!Love the way you care about cars
Great narration and footage as always.
Wow, beats my caliper paint job! Still took hours of prep and painting, only to try and not get everything covered in brake fluid. these guys did an amazing job.
I like it how he painted his arm, his glasses, screws and everything :) good job
5:10 was one of the scariest things I’ve seen... one wrong/unlucky move there and you’ll be cleaning up the bits of Mario

Not to mention spraying what I assume are 2K paints without using a fresh air fed respirator !
… I have never seen attention to detail like this. I’m opening my own workshop in Australia and I really hope to have the same level of attention. Incredible video
Such an awesome job. Truly the way to “professionally” paint calipers. The other end of the spectrum from “I’ll leave my calipers on and tape off a bunch of stuff…give it two coats…”
Incredible attention to the details. Beautiful color!
Looks fantastic! The logo is a great custom touch, too.
I love the color Larry, great choice.
i’ve binged every video i can and am planning to order ammo products 🤙🏼
Looks spectacular!
Amazing job. Have fun the R8 :)
Looking great man!
The attention to detail and professionalism of both the companies on this video is amazing. You can see why a perfectionist like Larry would use them. Only thig I would of done different is the wheels in gloss black to constrast against the nardo grey wrap and red calipers but each to their own.
Looks great Larry!
This must be the only video on youtube which shows how to do this job professionally. Only thing which would make this perfect is the information about what type of paint was used.
Can’t get much better than some JRZ’s or Moton’s. Those rotors are massive! Must be great to drive that thing.
Good job as always.
00:05:30 When I spray anything, I use long gloves, up to elbow....as I usually get paint everywhere......is a curse i have, lol😅

that's the first thing i fkng noticed. I thought maybe I just had OCD.
I like Hank's cigarette while masking. Whatever it takes to get the job done.
Great Video!!!
Awesome job.
That red you chose for the calipers is soooooo nice
That was so satisfying
absolutely great content right here. felt like watching a how its made video
Love the thorough video! Also Larry great colour choice?
They look so good
Very nice!
G2 caliper paint is excellent and works perfect...after done it looks OEM professional
Amazing, I uses the same break fluid in my car here em Brazil... cool!
That’s a fantastic metallic red finish.
I am doing mine and love the tip to cover the bolts
Their Attention to detail is truly impressive.
The center cap is a nice touch!
1000% knawledgeable 😎
Like I said in other vid, THIS PLACE IS AMAZING, & DETAIL IS Number 1....... Probably pricey, BUT WELL WORTH THE MONEY! Well worth....... As most places probably wouldn't take time to do half, or even a quarter, of the the stuff these guys do. Awesome....😃😃😃😃😉👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Proformance Industries are true professionals no doubt about it!
This is art.
When I was young and cared about this kind of stuff, I just washed mine in my filthy parts washer, primed them and bombed them with a can of brake paint from the local parts store. Cost me maybe $30 including the brake fluid, and half a days work all up. They looked great & lasted 9 years of abuse with no problems.

Sweeeet!
Im not a fan of red but damn those things look amazing. That color pops so well!
To mask pistons I cut vinyl on a plotter to the correct radius and stick that on. Faster and accurate.
Fantastic Larry. Are you going to go for an aftermarket exhaust?
I like your instructional videos. I have a classic car myself and I was wondering, do you have an idea where do I get the custom plastic inner fenders (you did 50/50 split test on them) for my car. Would you recommend any company?
They look great! Only thing that I'm surprised/confused on. Why vinyl instead of paint for the AMMO logos?
Love the videos and the content, Larry, But that bounce off the park pin at 0:42 nearly killed me...
A DIY video of how to do this on more "normal" brakes would be great to see. (normal brakes being more pitted and less refined)
@Killjoy_Xp

the same but with more elbow grease
Class
I am pretty interested in the arches color refresh... and split between SEM Trim Black and Wurth Plastic Dye Plast-PT. Maybe I'll do one each and compare results and longevity, lol :D
Amazing attention to detail!
Craftsmanship at its best.
I should go there I live close by
Jeeesh!!!! Those are fire. I need to find a place in Cleveland that does this for my 2022 Blazer. What did it cost for the caliper paint job?
Better than OEM :)
Please bring the podcasts back Larry!
Awesome videos, is this a track car or show car? All this work plus one mishap in the track...
Hi Larry! Love your videos, but why didnt you bleed the whole brakesystem and change the brakefluid to dot5.1? The dot4 fluid is probably good enough, but some Motul 5.1 would set the standard even higher! Keep up the good work! 😊
Gotta get some stainless lines man, I have them on my 93 Rx7 and it made a word of difference on initial pedal feel
@AMMO-NYC

couldnt find them though?
looking at all the labors required to prepare the brake calipers now i understand why it cn be quite expensive even the area to be painted is small
How do I know if a wheel cleaner is safe for anodized calipers?
any link on the paint? I presume the paint is not temp resistant but the clear coat is?
Beautiful... only thing the cost and the un available shops to do this kinda work where I live ... have to find a alternative...
Great ;)
Thumbs up if you're here from the Audi R8 suspension video! I didn't see this video on my subscription feed!!
Thoughts on paint vs powder coat for calipers? Local powder coat shop here is surprising cheap if you do all the prep yourself. I know there's some debate about piston seals and heat when baking the powder.
@Mellowbiker
Жыл бұрын
Powder coating will require new rubber seals due to the baking, so a little more invested in that. The fluid will need to be 100% removed, too.
How do you find shops like these? I have been looking all over the internet for a shop in Cali to do my calipers but can’t find any...
Everything looks great I’m just really surprised you just didn’t rebuild the calipers.
You should do a video for the very basic car guy that usually wouldn't go into details but would be the very barebones wash on a daily driver. That would cater to the broad audience. Like the guy that wouldn't go out and buy every detailer spray or clearner but the average guy that needs to wash his car. It would be a sort of stuck on an island scenario with the bare minimum items you could have with you, Pick say 5 things and make it work.

Larry do you sell the black AMMO stickers? I need like 10 of them 😎
Just curious why you were concerned about the "ammo" lettering being in white when it would be protected behind a clear coat? I think white would look much better.
@StephaneLeclair
6 жыл бұрын
White will get yellow with high heat
Amateur machinist here, I had to pause to finish laughing at the overkill of that lathe on your shifter. That thing is MASSIVE.
Those are some cool glasses at 0:59 , what are they?
Is the colour high temp? Or just lacquer can you use non high temp colour with high temp lacquer
What's your opinion on ceramic coating?
Do you know where i can get stickers like your ammo on your calipers?
I wonder if Tasco sells this type of paint??? I'm doing a rear conversion and would LOVE to have paint like that... BUT my car is just a focus lol So MAYBE rattle can high temp paint would be good enough?... for now
Where is the paint regimen kit on your website ?
