I have been a photogrpaher for 4 years now. I have used lenses worth as much as $5,000. The Nifty Fifty is the most versitle. Light weight, not obnoxious, great bokeh, sharp. You can always move around and get closer as needed. Definitely the best for Portraits and street.

I currently use a canon m50 and a t5. I want to hear your opinion on if this lens is good for close up shots and videos of tattooing. I want nice close shots of the tattoo machine and the needles puncturing the skin. Do you recommend this lens or have any others in mind

You could get it for your t5. However, if you want to go even closer I’d get a macro lens for your M50. The Canon ef-m 28mm f3.5 could be a good option. Hope this helps ;)

There were times when I had passion but no money. 20D + 50mm, 30D + 50mm.. It taught me a lot. Apsc making it 80mm was a challenge. Zooming with my feet stopped being an issue after a while. Then I got 5D Classic and 50mm STM. I own it 9 years. I got used to ff+50mm so much that I cant put it away today. 5Dc is still a pretty competitive camera even though it is from the year 2005. However, the need of a video and a wish, a dream to make a progress in gear, made me make an order for R6ii+rf50. Picking it up this friday. Cant wait for the new opportunities out there. Lacking the expensive gear made me realize and proved it is not about the gear. Ps - luv ur vids!

Could you do a video on the Sigma 30mm EF-M lens?
I admire your set up, the lighting and neat work. Thank you for sharing. I tried the night shooting earlier .. I didnt like the sky results but I loved how the trees appeared when kept the shutter open for about 20 seconds. Question ... the music track that started at around 0:43 .. who does it originally belong to? I have known it only from the middle east since the 80's I think but I had always thought it was Arabic :( lol
@PaulHeimlund
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! And thanks for sharing. The music track is from Artlist. It’s based on Mozart, so I’m sure there’s many different versions of it and there was a disco version made in the 80s. Maybe you had an Arabic version of it? ;)
Man, this is absolute gollld!!!!
Yes I do agree that it's better than the kit lens.

I love this lens but had to learn the hard way about Viltrox M2 Speed Booster Mount ! At first it seem this lens was cool with the Speed Booster then focusing issues popped up somewhat. Press the Shutter button halfway down and the camera develops a focus mind of its own. This stuff was effecting my Shore scences (Blur) as Bright light as you explained became unexpectedly untimed issues (need to shoot at dawn/dusk) ?! So i just swapped back to EF-M Mount ?! Long as i can shoot with my 50 without a lot of nonsense so be it !!! 👌
Just stumbled upon this video, you area a great presenter Paul, i am in :)
Bro what lens should i buy for cinamtic blury look? Another question can i edit the video footage from m50 transferring it too 11 pro mqx and edit it in adobe ruch or lumia fusion?
@PaulHeimlund
3 жыл бұрын
Hey! Get yourself a 1.8 or wider to get a cinematic look. And no, you need a proper pc/mac to edit the footage…
Is it compatible with CANON 2000D?
I just got this for my Canon Rebel T7 but it is way too zoomed in for me. Is there any kind of adapter that might help with this or am I out of luck and just have to splurge for a 35mm EF lens? If so, any suggestions? Thanks
@PaulHeimlund

If you think it’s way too zoomed I’d consider something even wider than 35mm. Adapters can be expensive and not very good (at least the cheaper ones)…

Paul, I enjoyed this viseo very much. It was informative as well as entertaining. I shoot with a Nikon D5100, but I'm planning to upgrade to a 24 megapixel camera later this year. I prefer using a crop sensor camera because I'm primarily an ametuer landscape photographer. I bought my 50mm f1.8 lens to photograph our church's praise and worship team singing. I was using my 35mm prime lens but I was forced to move up close which can be distracting to the congregation. With my nifty fifty I can shoot from the back of the room. I do have a question. I shoot in manual mode. I don't shoot at f1.8, even though the lights are low, except on the stage. I know that shooting wide open can make my images slightly out of focus. I generally shoot at f2.8, 1/160th of a second, with auto ISO. My question is, since I am shooting from roughly 25 to 30 yards away from the stage, can I shoot at f1.8 or f2.2 without blurring my shots?
@PaulHeimlund
4 ай бұрын
Hey James! Glad you enjoyed the video. Shooting at 1.8 with the 50mm might not create as sharp images as eg 2.8, but the image is not necessarily blurry. When I use my 50mm I usually shoot at 1.8, as the background gets blurry and it’s helpful in low light situations. So, you should be fine shooting between 1.8-2.2, especially if your deliveries are for web and social media. Remember you can always sharpen the images slightly in post, if necessary. Hope this helps and good luck ;)
