How to Create Your Own Tactic

Ойындар

Learning tactics. The most basic part of any Football Manager game. But one of my most common questions in FM20 is: “how do you design your own tactic?” So, I have been promising this video as the answer and alas it has arrived. Pray for Reece - I handed him over a half-hour of footage that he boiled down to a precise guide to build a solid tactic, every time.
How to balance a tactic, how to reconcile your players comfort with tactical harmony, how to generate an agreeable system, and how to overload opponents on both ends all included. I promise you this script was quite long. As always, if you have any questions leave a comment or hit the comments section of my discord, it is right below after all.
Much love,
FM Senpai

watch your games. If you have a lot of posession but don't score and have no chances, your attacking tactic/Player/Players roles aren't fitting. If you score a lot from FKs or corners, exploit that. If you concede a lot from crosses, defend wider and mark tighter, play your CBs that are good aerially. Training is important to improve weak spots, but make it balanced. If you can't score, don't train finishing in 50% of the sessions. Split it up between general/tactical and then some finishing, chance creation, set pieces etc.

You win? Good tactic. You lose? Bad tactic. You dont score? Fix attacking areas. You score but concede too many goals? Fix defending area. Thats literally all there is to it

Video idea: So you've done a video covering Youth intake day, and several videos on how to manage first team players. But none on the process between getting picked up in Youth intake and being promoted to the first team. I.e, How to monitor and manage U19's and Reserves. You always get asked, "When do I promote my 19 year old Messi to the first team?" so this might be a good video to just point them to. Thanks Z.

  • @DanielSanGV

When do you do promote your 19 year old Messi? At 16 haha if you really have someone that talented the fastest you give him game time the fastest he will grow, sometimes young (or old ones too for that matter) players will just outperform players that on paper are better than them. Some people just don't give enough game time to young players and just try to loan them, that works too.

  • @Theevilrhino

I would like to see this too. I often struggle to know when I should be keeping or loaning young players that likely won’t see first team action. They may get first team play somewhere else, but in a lower league than their scout report says they are ready for, with worse coaching and facilities etc. Do I loan them, keep in reserves, force into the first team etc.? How does my youth team stack up in comparison to the leagues I’m loaning them too? Weighing the playing time offered vs the quality of potential league. All things I kind of just wing but would like to better understand.

Theevilrhino Exactly the same. I manage in Spain so it’s possible for me to get my reserve team up to the second best division but I still don’t know if I should keep my young players down there or loan them out instead. I bought these 2 great CB prospects who I intended to play together at the reserve team but now I don’t know if I’m stunting their growth or if it’s an okay thing to do.

This was probably the best FM video I've watched. Concise, yet sufficiently detailed. Absolutely terrific. I'd love to see a similar video which analyses the detail of different roles, responsibilities and desires from different teams; ie, having a defence that isn't tall/poor jumping reach, and playing them in a high pressing line. It's simple common sense, but it's something I hadn't even considered. Awesome stuff, Zealand. 👍🏼

I think its overlooked by many who play football manager, for example in the last tactic you mentioned about having a WB (D) but if that player had a trait that is Gets Forward Whenever Possible, then his Trait is going to overlook his role! What are the big clubs and how do they relate to the mid-table teams? Which clubs have great academies (Genk will make everyone’s mouth water)? What’s the tv money like? I think this could be very interesting, if not only for guiding the hardest decision in football manager: picking a save Also, thank you for the lovely content on one of the hardest games out there!

Hey Z. Sorry I know this video came out a while ago but I was struggling with something. I've taken the reins at Worthing in VNS, and we aren't particularly strong or good in the air. In fact while one of our CBs (the captain) is a slow brick wall and an aerial presence, his partner is 5'11" with good marking/tackling/positioning and pace/stamina but only 5 jumping reach and strength lol. I went over my team's strengths and weaknesses compared to other teams in the league and our only standouts are passing (including vision from defence), marking and tackling (especially in midfield), good pace at the back but less in midfield, and fortunately good teamwork and workrate across the board. With the physical discrepancy between our two CBs, would you say a deeper or higher defensive line is suitable? I wanted to play a compact counter-attacking style mostly on the ground, but because arguably our standout strength is passing, I'm not sure if that means we should look to dominate the ball against bus parkers or if we should try to play risky passes a lot. It's tough to decide on more direct passing or simply higher tempo too, as I don't want high balls hoofed from my 3 vision 5'11" CB into my technically gifted 5'8" advanced forward lol. I did sign a strong target forward but can't get along with 442 and we don't have wingers good at crossing anyway. They're more pacey, flair IW types. My tactic is apparently working as we're top of the table after 30 games, but it might be a different story if I get to VNL and find myself getting pinned back defending in most games. Mr 5'11" might then only cut it as a cover duty CB in a trio of CBs. Thanks for any feedback you might have.

is the defensivline supposed to be understood as the image being the indicator on how the team stands defensivley or are those lines more to be understood as points. for example if i play with very high pressing and very deep defensive line. does it mean the team will be dragged out massivley on the pitch, like tis indicated by the image or does it mean the players will start pressing basically immediatly while the defensive players are trying to stand deep?

And if you dont understand what things do its hard to improve them or lets say you gonna need to watch the game full 90mins, do you want that? And a lot of patience is gonna needed lol. I would say (well atleast its helping me), just use one of the preset tactics, the kinda play u like, choose one. And against big teams you could tweak abit or just choose the fluid counter preset tactic.

@@martink.o8729 after two or three seasons in the game, if you make smart deals, it's really easy. by season 2 i had about 200 mil in the bank by selling off guerreiro and other second or third choice players. And that was before i was forced to sell sancho

I know man. I have short passing, play through the middle and work ball into the box on. But the majority of goals I score are still crosses/plays from wide players

Tactics is my favourite part of the game. It’s a shame that there are so many great value advanced forwards in the game that push you towards 4-2-3-1. I tend to tweak a lot game to game, depending on the opponent, from that base to keep it fresh. I’m tempted to play as Athletic Bilbao to force me into something more unusual

I know! I keep looking for F9 and DLF strikers, but they are few and far between. Everyone is an AF or pressing forward, so you either have to use an AMC out of position or compromise with a forward lacking vision and passing.

@@topoisomerace I've just switched to 4-3-3 actually as I thought it would get more out of my midfield two who both have lots of energy and are good dribblers, rather than shackle one. I noticed that my advanced forward "likes to play with back to goal", so even though it's not his preferred role I'm using him as a a complete forward on support. He's just scored a hat trick and got mom, when previously he'd been a bit underwhelming as my 'star player'. So goes to show you can't rely too much on what the game indicates to you is their preferred role while building your system

@@michaelc.1710 I agree. I wish the game would do away with those green/yellow/red dots or implement them better because as is they are misleading.

I think you made a mistake in this video: if you read the overlap instruction it tells you that the player doing the overlapping will be a full back, not the winger. So it makes sense to have Inside forwards and overlapping

What do you want to do with the target man? If it’s scoring backpost headers then I would suggest using a tall striker with good heading as and inside forward. They usually bully the small fullbacks and get open headers. You can get a lot of crucial goals this way, even against much more talented teams. It’s kind of the same way Juventus have used Mandzukic at times.
