Creating ID mattes to rendered objects and outputting them can be useful for later compositing because this allows compositors to isolate objects. In this video, I'll go over how to use Render Setup to create fast and easy ID mattes and how to create a template so it can be used time and again without creating them from scratch.

Hi, Great tutorial. Clear and concise. Straight forward method. I have a small tip, 7:11 if you click "Options" tab of render setup there is a check box "Include all lights in each layer by default". Just uncheck that and it will stop adding all lights to Layer by default. Now you just need to create a collection and just add the lights you need the in the layer.

Hello.... Why is it necessary to create the black matte layer for the entire scene in this set-up?

Hi The black colour acts as a hold-out matte that separates the main object from the rest of the scene. Hope it helps 🙂
