How to Create Abstract Art | Intuitive Watercolor and Doodles Painting

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Let me show you how easy it is to create abstract artwork using watercolors and working with an intuitive process. Just like neurographic art, this process is meditative and relaxing. All creative processes are very mindful and can help with overall health and wellbeing. One key element to healing mindfulness is to also be compassionate with yourself, as you're creating. So called mistakes are opportunities to learn and grow as artists.

Here’s a list of the materials I used for this painting:
* Watercolor paper (Strathmore, 400 series, cold pressed paper)
* Artist tape (my favorite is from Dick Blick's)
* Water
* Paper towel
* Watercolor palette - Decadent Pies - Blackberry
* Daniel Smith watercolors in Opera Pink , Alizarin Crimson, Phtalo Turquoise and Green Gold
* Winsor and Newton Cotman watercolor in Payne's Gray
* Round brush in size 12 by Artist Brush
* Black fountain pen by Pilot (Varsity)
* Black fine tip pen by Pentel Slicci (0.25mm)
* White pen (Uniball Signo)
* Kremer Pigmente - Gold Pearl watercolor
* Tri Art white gesso

    I have had the most wonderful gray day. I have spent it watching your videos from the first one you made to this one. I didn’t watch all of them because when I first saw your intuitive and neuro paintings, I was completely hooked. I am commenting to thank you for such a wonderful art experience. I love the way you present your art and yourself. Thank you for sharing yourself and your family. I am so looking forward to watching more of your videos tomorrow. I’m so grateful to you.

    I love this piece of work. I especially love your comments regarding perfection and tending to want to please other people rather than doing what speaks to our own desire. I am so encouraged to use your techniques with pen and gesso.

    The gesso over the paint to mute values...a fantastic trick I had not seen before! Honestly, I though gesso was for oils and acrylics and that watercolor would not "play well" with gesso.

    I was really surprised by this too! Since making this discovery, I have not hesitated to use gesso with my watercolors. One thing to note however is that the thicker the gesso is applied, if you want to add watercolors on top of it after it dries, it won’t have the same effect as it does when you’re just working over paper. I usually like to dilute my gesso with water if there’s a chance I will want to add more watercolors on top ☺️

    I do agree that by connecting all of the swirly circles it did bring the final piece together. I love the pink and how you toned down the red. Thank you for sharing.

    Yes I think the white line connected the swirls perfectly and now they look like they belong .I also feel the top is too pale to take so much white and that’s why your uncomfortable with what you did up there .But over all I do love the painting and the bright colours are gorgeous .🥰

    When you added that Payne's grey line I thought it was almost a disaster! As soon as you started adding those small points along it, the strange painting suddenly changed and became interesting. When finished I loved it very much! My favorite spot is the joy brought by the opera pink more than that beautiful soft light green. I really loved to follow this painting's elaboration. Thank you for dealing it with us. A.M.

    Hi Libby ☺️ thank you for tuning in! I have worked a lot with acrylics as well over the years. They do work quite differently than watercolors. The video I posted just this past Wednesday is a good one for beginners and I also have a playlist with other videos I consider good for beginners. My best advice is to start with inexpensive paints and paper to get an initial feel for this medium. Experiment and play! Let everything you do be about discovery. You’ll learn a lot that way. And, if you’re not familiar with Creations Cee Cee, check out her channel here on KZread. I got started with watercolors by watching her channel ❤️ She is a wonderful artist and teacher plus she has a ton of videos you’ll probably enjoy. Let me know how you make out! Thanks for making time to connect and happy creating! 🎨☺️
