+tsukinoakuma So is that why FE got two characters from Awakening, a returning one from Melee, and another for Fates? Besides, Pokemon only had one rep for the current Gen, and really Greninja being the only new character for Pokemon, whereas FE had two, and got another for the new game coming out at the time. And did FE really need 2 characters added through DLC? Seriously, they could've put in Corrin or another Fates character in Smash 5, when that comes out. But no, they couldn't wait to put him/her in instead of maybe giving the slot to a character who's game wasn't represented, like, oh I don't know, an Inkling from Splatoon? I mean they're pretty much guaranteed for Smash 5, but it would've been nice to have them debut in Smash in the console they originated from. The decision didn't get me into FE:F like they wanted to. Hell, it even drove me away from it for a while, before finally deciding to add it onto my waiting list. Then again, this is all coming from a Ganondorf main, so maybe I'm just still salty another typical counter user got in.

+zedersteel NSSmod There's no guarantee we're even getting a Smash 5. We'd probably be lucky to get Smash 4 ported to the NX, and any newcomers for that game be DLC. Besides, why wait until the next Smash game, at which point the hype for Fates has died out, when DLC is a thing that's part of modern gaming that allows developers to add content on the fly? There'll probably even be a new Fire Emblem game coming out before we get Smash 5, which is what would've happened if they waited until Brawl to include Roy.

Seriously, I’ll be disappointed if the “very disappointed” dialogue isn’t reused for Byleth. It’s probably “extremely” disappointed now.

Truth be told.. I would've liked Corrin if his/her character in Fates wasn't so trash. I liked the other fire emblem characters being in smash because I was like "Hey it's Marth he was cool in Heroes of Light and Shadow" or "Hey Robin. he was cool." but now with Corrin it's like "Hey it's Corrin.......... that's alright.... I guess" Also his/her win quotes suck.

What pisses me off the most is that we have 6 FE characters and only 5 LOZ characters. Even though LOZ is Nintendo's 3rd best selling franchise of all time. Why couldn't they put someone like Skull Kid or literally any other LOZ character over ANOTHER FE CHARACTER. Especially since LOZ hasn't gotten a new character in Smash other that Toon Link since Gannon in Melee. While FE gets 1 or 2 for every Smash game

Lucina doesn't count, she was originally a costume for Marth and near the end of Sm4sh's development, Sakurai made her into her own thing. Roy is a Melee rep more than he is a FE rep, as he was only put in because of how much people wanted him back, not because he's a Fire Emblem character. That leaves Marth, Ike, Robin and Corrin as our real FE characters. Corrin was also chosen completely separately from the ballot. He was put in as a promotion for Fates in the west. If he didn't get in, Bayonetta would be our only new character in that last Smash Direct. I do think we needed more Zelda characters, we don't need more than 1. We have 5 Zelda characters. Honestly, it'd be tough to narrow down characters to have in Smash. Skull Kid and Tingle are already Assist Trophies, and no one else would really fit or are popular enough.

All Toon Ganondorf has is Swords. Which would be cool, if it wasn't for the fact Toon Ganon has no real reason to be in Smash. Wind Waker's release has long past. Vaati I can't see getting in mostly due to his lack of appearances. Only one was a normal Zelda title. It'd be cool, but I doubt his inclusion as well. Tetra is Sheik for Toon Zelda. While she may not actually be that if she was put it, ala Hyrule Warriors, what abilities does she possess? All she has is a Dagger in canon. Besides, like with Toon Ganondorf, her game is long past. If she were added, it would've been in Brawl. All of these characters suffer from the same thing; they're only in 1-2 games. Zelda, Ganondorf are all iconic characters who are in almost every game, and Link is the protagonist. Young Link was added to pander to Ocarina of Time fans, which is a lot of people, and Toon Link replaced him, as he appears as the protag in more than just 2 games. My point is, these characters aren't just in 1-2 games, they're in almost every game on the series! Same goes for Mario, Kirby among others.

+TrueEm - Rebooted even though she was originally just a skin doesn't excuse the fact that she was put in, and took up a whole character slot(just like dark pit). There is no reason she shouldn't be counted as a FE character. I don't hate FE, if Ike and Marth were the only ones in smash I wouldn't care, but putting in that many characters that aren't very recognizable is kinda ridiculous. Characters like skull kid or King K would have been super cool, and much more fitting for a Nintendo fighting game. (I don't mean to start any comment wars please don't hate me 😅)

In my opinion, Marth, Lucina and Roy have the least unique swords (as in the sword itself, not its use). Link's (also Toon Link's) sword has a unique hilt design, and has been shown to be capable of folding. Pit and Dark Pit's swords are also bows. Ike's sword is a realistically-sized two-handed sword (considering large, animesque swords tend to take the "large" part to an exaggerated level). Robin's Levin Sword has an incredibly impractical-looking zigzag shape, but still packs quite a punch. The Bronze Sword doesn't even count as a sword to me. Meta Knight's sword has spikes, which pretty much makes it a sword that has four knives on it. Shulk's sword is a magical laser sword. Cloud's sword is fucking massive. Corrin's sword... Corrin's sword is also a chainsaw!

+mariozplaze I imagine him playing more like Pit, if it was Sora himself. But I think it would be more likely that he'd be in a team of SDG, like Duck Hunt. They'd call them Trinity, like those marks in KH. Goofy would be the shield+grabs, Donald would cast for their specials, and Sora would do the smash attacks. The Final Smash would either be Final Drive, Trinity Limit, or opening the door to Kingdom Hearts. But I doubt this would happen.

I will be honest. I ate my words too with Corrin. I thought it was stupid at first to add him/her. Now I main Corrin as he/she is really good at beating up on Bayonetta. Killing Bayonetta by countering her Smash is so satisfying.

no, sometimes while you're still in tumble and you get hit by zss paralyzer or corrin dragon fang you'll only take the damage and won't get stunned

If you get stunned, you won't get stunned again until you hit the ground, at least from my experience

If you ended it at 2:18 I would have been perfectly fine I love the opening to this so much

He really did have a point when he was talking about characters we wanted to see in smash. Seriously, out of those 14 characters If we get another Smash, (which I'm doubting) I'm gonna vote for all of those characters and pray that at least one of them gets in.

Huh, didn't know people wanted Roy back. I thought it was just a call bank to melee. And I can think of a dumber character for smash. Now, hear me out, but how about a 4th marth clone. I know sakurai has a hard on for fire emblem. He would of it.

the rant is true towards almost everyone in the smash community and the ballot voters like shantae, shovel knight and rayman with plenty more potencial characters and we got more anime fighters with more fire emblem characters. Not being a butthurt smash fan, but just saying the true with weegee god. Shantae, Shovel Knight, Inklings and Rayman for Smash 5 (if another one will be created in the future).

+DukeThe EXE.hog I think its kinda fair for japan to get their addition (corrin) cos they crazy about fire emblem there and it wouldn't rly be fair if the rest of the world got their DLCs

I enabled auto closed captions and I'm amazed it managed to translate the rant nearly perfect. Hell, it even got Sakurai and K Rool. It knows everything.

I have those exact thoughts on Corrin. We were originally going to get two characters for the Smash Ballot (which, I might add, was less a ballot and more a weird half-ballot half-suggestions box thing since a character didn't necessarily have to be the most popular if the reasons for including that character were good enough). And then... Intelegent Systems (the Nintendo subsidiary that makes Fire Emblem, as well as the Wars series and the Mario & Luigi RPGs) _demanded_ that Corrin be put in. But at the same time, Corrin isn't a bad character. It's just that the circumstances of his/her inclusion are bullshit. This from the one guy who voted for Heavy Weapons Guy.

Okay, I'm jump to Fire Emblem's defense here real quick (from a company perspective). Fire Emblem Awakening was essentially a prototype for future games that were never actually planned to be released (it was scheduled to be the last game in the series) and it was still one of the best selling 3ds games. In order to continue the series, they needed to improve heavily on Awakening and increase awareness to actually make a continuation profitable. Fire Emblem characters in Smash were actually one of the main reasons that Fire Emblem ever came to the west. So in order to improve awareness and interest in their newest game, which so badly needed it, they added Corrin to Smash, and did a good job I might add. That said, FE Fates is a fantastic game and far superior to Awakening. You should all play it.

Smash fans: -Whined about Roy, a character whose game hadn't been released at the time of Melee's release, being left out of sm4sh to the point where Sakurai brought him back, even though he's a Marth clone -Complain about Corrin, a character whose game hadn't been released at the time of sm4sh's release, being put in sm4sh partially because his game hadn't been out yet, partially because he's 'just another anime swordsman' Also, Corrin didn't win the ballot, Bayonetta did. Most Smash fans voted for Bayonetta, and she got in because of that. Corrin was put in as just another character to have fun with. Sakurai didn't need to put Corrin in, but he did - there's no reason to complain about that.

It's sad that nobody seems to care about this comment. The smash community needs more people that actually consider other perspectives before hating everything. Corrin is not a clone of anybody, he's a very unique character, anime sword representatives from a Japanese game company aren't a problem, he has range but isn't as OP as those who refuse to learn the matchup think, he didn't win the ballot, Fire Emblem is very popular, and he is a great and, most of all, unnecessary character inclusion in the game. The development team did not need to take the time to include this character, but they did anyway. They did it despite all the rage they receive from a bunch of assholes that don't know how to appreciate extra content they don't even have to use. I wish there were a way to reassure Sakurai that I care and that I respect everything he's done up to this point. He has to deal with one of the most cancerous communities I've ever seen and for that I feel sorry for him.

Thiro DSmash At least in my experience, people were complaining an awful lot about (and once Mewtwo was announced, asking for) Roy and Lucas. Much more so than Wolf, I might add.

I'm sure it seemed like a good idea at the time, giving the competitive community a character with complex combos (if you'll excuse the alliteration) and technical inputs in much the same way that they did with Ryu. Of course it didn't really work out in practice, but after 1.1.6 chances are (with any luck) she's going to be just another character which the competitive community in particular will have fun with. And what do you mean, why have a ballot? She was the most-wanted realisable pick.
