Nike's fins are swim-training fins, not bodyboarding fins. They don't have an open heel or a stiff blade, which is what you need for bodyboarding.

This is a good tip as i had to learn the hard way. Though never turn your back to the ocean.... My son took out some bystanders because they were standing in the shorebreak and not paying any attention to the ocean. They were lucky it was only knee deep because one person got swept out a bit

Your method doesn't work too well if you are wearing fin socks or tethers. Pretty difficult to put those on while waves are knocking you around.

Thanks for all your educational bodyboarding videos. My problem is walking out over shelly beaches. Invariably, sharp shells get into the fin pocket and are tough to clear. Good drain holes help but I generally find a spot with some depth and plane over even a shallow area to get past the gritty mess. It takes some timing. Any other ideas?

We have some fin socks and booties coming next week with Kevlar bottoms. Wear those and then put your fins on once you get in the water. Not ideal, but will solve your problem.

Please make video of how to enter and exit the water at a beach break where head high waves are breaking right on the sand at the shoreline. I always struggle coming in because the fins are so cumbersome once I get to the impact zone. It would be great to always have a gradually sloping beach with calm water near shore like the one in this video but I don’t have that.

In that case, you literally have to time it. Wait for a big set to come, and then jump in right off the sand on to your board and start kicking.

Nice video. I want to see a video with some scientific comparisons on flippers and also kicking style. You could do it in a pool, band around your waist with a cord to a scale to measure force. a hanging type fruit scale on its side would work. Also a speed test comparison of fins would be interesting with multiple people testing multiple fins. On bodyboards and without. Cheers

Thanks for the feedback Michael! That's a tall order that would require a ton of work, so I don't see that happening any time soon, but I do appreciate the idea. I do have this video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/aWyT28iseKaZmdI.html

Great tips for beginners. However, the main reason you put your fins on before entering the water isn't because of waves, but because you should be using fin tethers. Unless of course you love buying new fins for every session.

No way dude...best way is to put your fins AND your leash on at the car, and sprint through the pkg lot, sand, across peoples blankets/towels and straight into the water. If anyone you encountered/ran over along the way has an issue, wait untill you are out in the line-up then flip 'em the birdie! 😅😂🖕🖕 Ps...I do the same shit on the slopes when I go skiing! 😆🤣👍

Feel ur pain. I used to be indifferent about putting it on in the water or not and normally did it in the water. Then I changed fin brands, was putting them on in swirling current-ty shorebreak, one slipped from my hand. Oh no worries, where is that floating fin. Gone. Nowhere to be found. New brand doesn't float. Oops. 🤦‍♂ .

When heading back to the beach, I prefer to ride the whitewater all the way to dry land, where I proceed to flop over like a beached whale. Negative or positive, style points are style points!

I had a seal pull on my fin and my leash. I didn't know what it was till I turned and he was laughing at me. Also had one grab my knee and slow me down. Later he had his front fin holding my rail and was just under my board. About a four footer. I kneeboard in Santa Cruz.

Thats how nobs and beginners do it lol. Dive in water (pre wash ain't gonna do anything unless your a spazz) then put fins on with water lubing them so go on easier and no strap issue , no awkward waking either.

Well, 45 years of bodyboarding, I guess I'm a "nob". I've seen so many people carry their fins into the water and try to put them on with waves hitting them and end up dropping their fins. Plus, if you're wearing fin socks/tethers, kinda tough to put all that on in the surf...but hey...different strokes for different folks.
